GENESIS CHAPTER 5
The GENERATIONS of Adam
We learned from Genesis 3:13-16, that satan, in his role as the serpent, beguiled—read that, wholly seduced, i.e., Strong’s Hebrew word number: H5377, - נָשָׁא, - nâshâ', pronounced - naw-shawי, and means: A primitive root, to lead astray, that is, (mentally) to delude, or (morally) to seduce: beguile, deceive, X greatly, X utterly. - Total KJV occurrences: 15. and Strong’s Greek word number: G1818, - ἐξαπατάω, - exapataō, pronounced - ex-ap-at-ah,-o, and means: From G1537 and G538, to seduce wholly: - beguile, deceive. Total KJV occurrences: 5.—Eve and the results of that seduction produced Cain as read in Genesis 4:1-2.
Genesis 4:17-24 then gave us Cain’s genealogy. We also saw that Cain was NOT in Adam’s genealogy, as Adam’s genealogy doesn’t start until this Chapter and as we’ll see, Cain is NOT mentioned anywhere in Adam’s genealogy. We will also see that Abel is not mentioned in Adam’s genealogy, and the reason for that is because Abel had no progeny. So then, Adam’s genealogy starts with his second son with Eve — Seth.
With that introduction being said, let’s go to Father and ask Him for His Blessings on our Study of His Word: “ Father, I come to You right now and ask that You Oh LORD Lead me and Guide me as I try and teach Your Word, don’t allow me to mis-teach or mis-lead Your Children. We, Father, also come to You as a group who desire to Learn Your Word, to thank You for inviting us to Your table in order that we might be able to partake of and receive Your Spiritual Meat, and Father, as we prepare to dine on the sustenance which sustains our inner man, we ask that You Oh LORD open our ears and eyes, that we might be able to hear and see your Truths, open our hearts and minds and prepare us in order that we may receive Your Truth. We Pray for Your Understanding of Your Word, we seek Your Knowledge in Your Word, and most importantly Father, we Pray for and desire Your Wisdom from Your Word, in Jesus’ Precious name we Pray, thank You Father, Amen.”

Genesis 5:1 This is THE BOOK OF THE GENERATIONS OF ADAM. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made He him; —> This Chapter begins with the First man Adam, just as in the New Testament, the Gospel of Matthew begins with the “Second Man” and “Last Adam” — Jesus Christ. We can compare the genealogy of Genesis 5 with that of Luke 3:36-38, and follow the same generations, history, begetting, whichever word you wish to use, from Adam all the way to Christ.
Genesis 5:1-2 presents to us, Adam and Eve in their “unfallen” state — i.e. , before their great sin in the Garden of Eden.
There are four different Hebrew words translated for “man” and or “Adam” in Father’s Word by the King James Version, 1611 translators; and when we read these words in Father’s Word, we must always refer back to the Hebrew to see in which genitive cause they are used. For a more in-depth study on the four causes see Dr. Bullinger’s Companion Bible Appendix 14, but they are as follows: (1) Adam — denotes his origin, as being made from the “dust of the Adamah” ground (Latin homo); (2) ish — has regard to sex, a male (Latin vir); (3) enosh — in regards to man’s infirmitiess, as physically mortal, and as to character, incurable; and (4) geber — has respect to his strength a “mighty man”.
Genesis 5:1-2 starts out addressing mankind in general — created in Genesis 1, NOT Adam formed in Genesis 2. We know this because of how verse 5:2 here reads — so let’s read it:
5:2 Unfallen Adam: a “Son of God” (Luke 3:38)
1A2
Genesis 5:2 Male and female created He them; and blessed them, and called their name adam, in the day when they were created. —> Notice, Father through Moses, says that He called “their” name “adam,” thus signifying mankind in general of Genesis 1, NOT “Adam and Eve” formed in Genesis 2.
5:3-5 Fallen Adam, and his years.
The total 930, and the first 130.
1A3
Genesis 5:3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth: —> We know from Genesis 4:25, that Seth is born after Abel is slain, for in that verse, Eve states “God… hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.”.
Notice also, that Adam is 130 years old when Eve gives birth to Seth.
Let’s turn to I Chronicles 1:1 and read concerning Adam’s genealogy there: I Chronicles 1:1 Adam, Sheth, Enosh, [1:2] Kenan, Mahalaleel, Jered, [1:3] Henoch, Methuselah, Lamech, [1:4] Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japeth. —> Notice that “Cain” is not listed. Christ Jesus will not come through Cain’s genealogy, and there is a reason for that — Cain is the progeny of satan, and it was through Cain that satan tried to interrupt the seedline through which Christ would come.
1A4
Genesis 5:4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters: —> …The days of Adam...=None of these particulars are given of Cain’s lineage. Not even of their deaths.
Something we have to pay attention to here from this verse, when we’re covering the “begats,” and that is that from now on, for the most part, unless they are in the “seedline to Christ” they are not mentioned unless they come in contact with those who are in the seedline to Christ. Meaning this — we don’t see the names of all the other children Adam fathered after Seth, but yet, Father’s Word states that Adam bare children after Seth, we just never hear of them. The next we hear, is Seth’s offspring to Christ.
1A5
Genesis 5:5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
—> What Adam and Eve did after birthing Seth Father’s Word doesn’t say, it only says that he fathered Seth at the age of 130, and then lived for another 800 years, thus he returned Home to Father at the age of 930.
5:6-27 The progeny of Adam, and their deaths.
1A6
Genesis 5:6 And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos: —> Enos in the Hebrew means — “frail” or “incurable,” why Adam and Eve named him such, I can’t say as we’ll see he lived a total of nine hundred and five years.
1A7
Genesis 5:7 And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters: —> Again, like from Adam, we don’t hear of their names unless they are in the seedline to Christ.
Likewise absent, are the races of the sixth day creation, again, unless the seedline does come into contact with them, we never hear about them.
1A8
Genesis 5:8 And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died. —> What all Seth did in his lifetime Father’s Word doesn’t state; so, we won’t ever know unless we ask him when we return Home.
1A9
Genesis 5:9 And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan: —> Cainan means a “possession. ” Cainan is the third from Adam, his great-grandson.
1A10
Genesis 5:10 And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters: —> Enos then begat more sons and daughters, we don’t know how many of each, or how many total, and nothing else of significance happened in his life in the following 815 years, otherwise it would have been noted in Father’s Word.
1A11
Genesis 5:11 And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died. —> Enos returned Home to Father at the age of 905 years.
1A12
Genesis 5:12 And Cainan lived seventy years, and begat Mahalaleel: —> Mahalaleel means "praise of YAH.”
1A13
Genesis 5:13 And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters: —> Cainan then begat more sons and daughters; again, we don’t know how many of each or how many total; and nothing else of significance happened in his life in the following 840 years, otherwise it would have been noted in Father’s Word.
1A14
Genesis 5:14 And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died. —> At the ripe old age of 910 years, Cainan returned Home to Father.
1A15
Genesis 5:15 And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and he begat Jared: —> Jared means "descent." Jared is the great, great grandson of Adam.
Notice now, that each successive male is getting younger when they bare their sons through which Christ will come.
1A16
Genesis 5:16 And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters: —> Mahaleel then begat more sons and daughters; again, we don't know how many of each or how many total, and nothing else of significance happened in his life in the following 830 years, otherwise it would have been noted in Father’s Word.
1A17
Genesis 5:17 And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred and ninety five years: and he died. —> Nothing else of significance happened in Mahaleel’s life in the following 830 years, and at the age of 895, 15 years less than his father Cainan, he returned Home to Father.
1A18
Genesis 5:18 And Jared lived an hundred and sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch: —> Enoch means "teaching or initiation."
As we’ll see below when we learn of Enoch, he is special and lived up to his name “teaching;” because, he does a wonderful job for Father teaching His Word.
But, we also have to be careful with this name &lduo;Enoch;” as Cain also purposely named one of his sons by the same. So, when we hear this name, we have to check the surrounding verses to see which one—in the lineage to Jesus, or of satan’s lineage—we are talking about.
1A19
Genesis 5:19 And Jared lived after he begat, Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: —> Jared was 162 years old when he fathered Enoch, he then begat more sons and daughters, we don’t know how many of each or how many total; nothing else of significance happened in the next 800 years in his life, otherwise it would have been noted in Father’s Word.
1A20
Genesis 5:20 And all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty and two years: and he died. —> At the ripe old age of 962, Jared returned Home to Father.
1A21
Genesis 5:21 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: —> Methuselah means “man of a dart,” that is because his name is derived from Hebrew word H7973, which means “a missile of attack, that is, spear; also (figuratively) a shoot of growth, that is, branch: - dart, plant, X put off, sword, weapon.”. Methuselah also means: when he is dead, it shall be sent, , i.e. , the deluge, in other words, the flood or the diluvial of Noah’s day.
1A22
Genesis 5:22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred and begat sons and daughters: —> We’ll discuss this “and Enoch walked with God” when we get to verse Genesis 5:24 below.
1A23
Genesis 5:23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty and five years: —> Enoch was 65 years old when he fathered Methuselah, he then begat more sons and daughters, we don’t know how many of each or how many total as Father’s Word doesn’t say.
1A24
Genesis 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him. —> So let’s look at this Enoch. The verse reads that Father “took Enoch.” By “took” it means that, Enoch was and then was no more, as we read in Hebrews 11, which reads: Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. —> Let’s look at the word “Translated,” as used here in this verse. In the Strong’s Concordance, it is Greek word number G3346, μετατίθημι , - metatithēmi, pronounced - met-at-ith’-ay-mee and means: From G3326 and G5087; to transfer, that is, (literally) transport, (by implication) exchange, (reflexively) change sides, or (figuratively) pervert: - carry over, change, remove, translate, turn.. In other words, Father took Enoch Home to Him—without dying as in the future, Father’s Prophet Elijah will be, as can be read in II Kings 2:9—because of the Truth which he was teaching. Father knew satan and his fallen angels would try and harm Enoch.
Now, we know this had to be good teaching, because this is totally different from His taking Nadab and Abihu home when they offered “strange fire” before the LORD at His Altar, as we read in Numbers 3:4, which reads: Numbers 3:4 And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children: and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest’s office in the sight of Aaron their father. —> We learn just what it was that Enoch was teaching in Jude 1:14, which reads: Jude 1:14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, "Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, [1:15] To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him. —> Enoch was telling all the ungodly people back then, that they would receive the judgment from Father for declaring Him not to be and such. Who were the ungodly? To find the answer to that we have to look at the time that Enoch was — he was the seventh from Adam, and what was taking place during this time? For the answer to that question, we turn to Genesis 6:1: Genesis 6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, —> Mankind in general, and the Adamic seedline in particular, also were doing as Father instructed and “replenishing” the earth, both male and females were being born in order to continue to populate the earth. [6:2] That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives all of which they chose. —> Who are these “sons of God? ” We can find our answer to that in Job 1, which reads: Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. —> These are the angels, and they are in heaven, only in Genesis 6 they have left heaven and have wrongly—against Father’s Will and Plan—come to the earth to fulfill satan’s plan to again try and interrupt the seedline through which Father will become flesh.
How and by what was Enoch teaching? Enoch was Divinely Instructed: Romans 10:17: Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. —> He was teaching what Father wanted him to teach, i.e. , that the fallen angels were coming from heaven to earth and were mating with flesh women. And because of it, Father was pleased with what Enoch was teaching, and therefore, He took him Home to be with Him.
1A25
Genesis 5:25 And Methuselah lived an hundred and eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech: —> Methuselah did not father Lamech until he was 187 years old, even Abram was only 100 when he lay with his wife Sarai and then she bare Isaac.
Lamech means “powerful. ”
1A26
Genesis 5:26 And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters: —> Methuselah then lived for another 782 years begetting more sons and daughters; again, we don’t know how many of each or even how many total he had begotten before he returned Home to Father.
1A27
Genesis 5:27 And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died. —> …nine hundred and sixty nine years…=969 years, wow, this is the oldest living flesh man recorded in Father’s Word and I know of no other person who lived as long as Methuselah had. Apparently nothing else of significance happened in his life, as there is nothing recorded in Father’s Word.
5:28-32 Noah, and his promise of “comfort”.
1A28
Genesis 5:28 And Lamech lived an hundred and eighty and two years, and begat a son: —> Lamech was 182 years old when he sired Noah. Noah’s name as we’ll find out, means: “rest,” “comfort,” or “consolation. ”
1A29
Genesis 5:29 And called his name Noah, saying, “This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.” —> Again, because of this verse, we see that Noah means “rest,” “comfort,” or “consolation. ”
When did Father curse the ground? He did that Back in Genesis 3:17-19, right after the “great” sin of Adam and Eve.
So, why did Lamech name Noah as such — Comfort or Rest. What does the verse read? “…This same shall comfort us concerning our work…,” the word “work” should actually read — “works. ” So then, let’s examine Father’s Word for more of these “works.” We’ll start in Exodus 23:24, do you remember the last verse in Genesis 4, where “men began to call upon the name of the LORD?” Where they really weren’t doing righteously, they were doing grievous toil, trouble, and deeds? This is why we’ll start in Exodus 23:24: Exodus 23:24 Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images. —> We can also look in Leviticus 18:3, which reads: Leviticus 18:3 After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, ye shall not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances. —> and again we can see in Micah 6:16, which reads: Micah 6:16 For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of My people. —> Lamech knew that his son would be better than most and would be obedient to Father and would be a “type” of savior to the world.
1A30
Genesis 5:30 And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters: —> After fathering Noah, Lamech lived another 595 years, and during that time he begat more sons and daughters, we don't know how many of each or how many total as Father’s Word doesn’t say.
1A31
Genesis 5:31 And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died. —> Nothing else of significance happened in Lamech’s life in the following 595 years, and at the age of 777, he returned Home to Father. Seven Hundred Seventy Seven years, a grand number! Seven in Biblcal Numerics denotes Spiritual Completeness, and\or Spiritual Perfection. From Dr. Bullinger we read: “It is the number or hall-mark of the Holy Spirit’s work. He is the Author of God’s Word, and seven is stamped on it as the water-mark is seen in the manufacture of paper. He is the Author and Giver of life; and seven is the number which regulates every period of Incubation and Gestation, in insects, birds, animalsc and man. A number which, therefore, occupies so large a place in the works, and especially in the Word of God as being inspired by the Holy Spirit.”
1A32
Genesis 5:32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham and Japheth. —> Shem means, and you have to take the word out to the “prime” to come to the true meaning; but, it means, “conspicuous position,” or possibly “honour” or “authority.” It will be and is through Shem’s seedline that the Adamic seedline to Christ will continue.
Ham means “hot.” Ham will sin greatly after the flood by “uncovering his father’s nakedness”—see Leviticus 18 for the true understanding—or laying with his father’s wife, i.e., Ham’s own mother. Ham had an incestuous relationship with his own mother, she became pregnant through that relationship and later bare Canaan.
Ham’s offspring will also bare Nimrod “to rebel,” a mighty one and a mighty hunter, which is not a good thing — “we will rebel; or come, let us rebel. ”
Japheth means “expansion. ”
The order of the three of Noah’s children are not in the correct order of their birth, as the names are inverted. Japheth was the elder— see Genesis 10:2—while Shem was the youngest.
This verse then, closes out the Generations from Adam to Noah and his sons, which names the generations in the lineage of Christ prior to the flood. We have set the stage for Genesis 6, which was a time when the whole world had undergone a change and became the cause and the reason for the flood of Noah’s time.
Genesis 6 also presents a snap-shot picture of man in the flesh, and humanity at its worst, yet it is also an ensample of what our present times are quickly becoming. Jesus forewarned and spoke of these times in Matthew 24:36-39, which read: Matthew 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no not the angels of heaven, but My Father only. —> The day and hour spoken of are the day and hour of our Lord’s return. [24:37] But as the days of Noe (Noah, in the Hebrew) were. so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. [24:38] For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, [24:39] And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. —> This is why it is important to pay attention to these early chapters of Genesis, because Jesus Christ also tells us that in these end times, it will be exactly as it was in Noah’s day, so shall it be at His second coming. This is why we must be alert as we continue into the next chapter.
