1A0JOSHUA CHAPTER 9

Joshua 9 is an extremely important chapter in Fathers Word because it gives us insight as to how the House of Israel had allowed themselves to be infiltrated and the priesthood initially became polluted by outside forces. This Chapter shows us who these peoples were, and by whom and how, they were allowed into the priesthood.

With that introduction being said, lets go to Father and ask Him for His Blessings on our Study of His Word: Father, I come to You right now and ask that You Oh LORD Lead me and Guide me as I try and teach Your Word, dont allow me to mis-teach or mis-lead Your Children. We, Father, also come to You as a group who desire to Learn Your Word, to thank You for inviting us to Your table in order that we might be able to partake of and receive Your Spiritual Meat, and Father, as we prepare to dine on the sustenance which sustains our inner man, we ask that You Oh LORD open our ears and eyes, that we might be able to hear and see your Truths, open our hearts and minds and prepare us in order that we may receive Your Truth. We Pray for Your Understanding of Your Word, we seek Your Knowledge in Your Word, and most importantly Father, we Pray for and desire Your Wisdom from Your Word, in Jesus Precious name we Pray, thank You Father, Amen.

Of course, Father allowed that to transpire because of Achan; and, also, because, neither Joshua, nor the high priest Eleazar, had consulted Father as to whether He wanted them to go against Ai.

But now, these six kings of the Canaanite nationsmissing from this list are the Amalekites, the Ammonites, the Edomites, the Girgashites, and the Moabitesare gathering themselves together to come against Israel in order to defeat, or at least, try and defeat them.

So, just who were these peoples: the Hittite; the Amorite; the Canaanite; the Perizzite; the Hivite; and the Jebusite? We can look to two places for our answer, either Genesis 10:1, or I Chronicles 1:15-17(click here). Turn with me to Genesis 10: Genesis 10:6 And the sonsH1121 of Ham;H2526 Cush,H3568 and Mizraim,H4714 and Phut,H6316 and Canaan.H3667   —>   Though already married and his wife was with him on the Ark; after coming onto dry land and many months passedenough time for Noah to plant and grow a vineyardHam lay with NoahsHams fatherwife, his own motherthis was an incestuous affair, see Genesis 9:22-23(click here). She conceived and bare a son Canaan. Skip down a few verses with me to Genesis 10:15: Genesis 10:15 And CanaanH3667 begatH3205 (H853) SidonH6721 his firstborn,H1060 and Heth,H2845   —>   We are now reading of Canaans descendants here in these verses. Sidon is Canaans firstborn, and Heth his second. [10:16] And the Jebusite,H2983 and the Amorite,H567 and the Girgasite,H1622 [10:17] And the Hivite,H2340 and the Arkite,H6208 and the Sinite,H5513   —>   This is why we came here, to discover from whom the Jebusites, the Amorites, and the Hivites were descended; and we find that its Canaan. [10:18] And the Arvadite,H721 and the Zemarite,H6786 and the Hamathite:H2577 and afterwardH310 were the familiesH4940 of the CanaanitesH3669 spread abroad.H6327   —>   Canaan also sired Hamath. These are the Canaanites, the abominable people Father told Joshua and Israel utterly destroy man, woman, and child. Why, especially if theyre Adamic? Because, they turned from Father; they were mating with the fallen angels; and, they were worshipping false gods and idols. [10:19] And the borderH1366 of the CanaanitesH3669 wasH1961 from Sidon,H4480 H6721 as thou comestH935 to Gerar,H1642 untoH5704 Gaza;H5804 as thou goest,H935 unto Sodom,H5467 and Gomorrah,H6017 and Admah,H126 and Zeboim,H6636 even untoH5704 Lasha.H3962   —>   They had even inhabited Sodom and Gomorrah which Father destroyed because they were committing abominable acts of homosexuality. They havent changed much even to today, have they havent learned our lesson yet? But, they covered a very large portion of land. [10:20] TheseH428 are the sonsH1121 of Ham,H2526 after their families,H4940 after their tongues,H3956 in their countries,H776 and in their nations.H1471 —> This is pretty plain and clear when you actually dig into Fathers Word to gain His knowledge and wisdom.
Jordan
Jordan=The Jordan river proper begins at the junction of four streamsthe Bareighit, the Hasbany, the Leddan, and the Baniasin the upper part of the plain of Lake Huleh. The River flows from north to south, down a deep valley in the center of the country. The name descender, is significant of the fact that, there is along its whole course, a descent to its banks; or it may simply denote the rapidity with which the river descends to the Dead Sea. As we can tell by the number of times it is mentioned in Fathers Word179 verses with 197 matches for the name\wordthere is a deep and rich history between the Jordan River and our forefathers. It begins with the account of Abram and his nephew Lot and their separating from one anotherGenesis 13:11and the last mention is in John 10:40, when Jesus escaped out of those who were trying to harm Him before it was time for Him to allow for His Crucifixion. Several of the more notable facts concerning the history between the Jordan and our forefathers are: Lot beheld the plain of Jordan as the garden of the Lord. Jacob crossed and recrossed this Jordan Genesis 32:10. When our forefathers came to the Jordan and were about to cross over it to get to Mount Ebal, Father commanded that they take up great stones and plaister them with plaister and then write on them the Law of the Blessings and curses and then take more stones and make an altar of whole stones Deuteronomy 27:2-8. Our forefathers passed over it as on dry ground Joshua 3:17, Psalms 114:3. Twice afterwards its waters were miraculously divided at the same spot by Elijah and Elisha II Kings 2:8,14(click here). The chief events in gospel history connected with it are: John the Baptists ministry, when there went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and were baptized of him in Jordan Matthew 3:6, Jesus also was baptized of John in Jordan Mark 1:9. For the etymology of the name Jordan, we read the following in Abarim Publications: The etymology of the name Jordan comes from the common verb ירד (yarad), meaning to go down: The final letter nun upon which this name ends may be a remnant of the common waw-nun extension that personalizes or localizes a root. For a meaning of the name Jordan New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads The Descender. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary and Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names both propose Descending.. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H3383, - ירדּן, - yardên, - pronounced: yar-daneי, and means: From H3381; a descender; Jarden, the principal river of Palestine: - Jordan. Total KJV occurrences: 182.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: The one river of Palestine, has a course of little more than 200 miles, from the roots of Anti-Lebanon to the head of the Dead Sea. (136 miles in a straight line. --Schaff.) It is the river of the great plain of Palestine the descender, if not the river of God in the book of Psalms, at least that of his chosen people throughout their history. There were fords over against Jericho, to which point the men of Jericho pursued the spies Joshua 2:7, with which we can compare with Judges 3:28. Higher up where the fords or passages of Bethbarah, where Gideon lay in wait for the Midianites Judges 7:24, and where the men of Gilead slew the Ephraimites Judges 12:6. These fords undoubtedly witnessed the first recorded passage of the Jordan in the Old Testament Genesis 32:10. Jordan was next crossed, over against Jericho, by Joshua Joshua 4:12,13. From their vicinity to Jerusalem the lower fords were much used. David, it is probable, passed over them in one instance to fight the Syrians II Samuel 10:17;17:22. Thus there were two customary places at which the Jordan was fordable; and it must have been at one of these, if not at both, that baptism was afterward administered by St. John and by the disciples of our Lord. Where our Lord was baptized is not stated expressly, but it was probably at the upper ford. These fords were rendered so much more precious in those days from two circumstances. First, it does not appear that there were then any bridges thrown over or boats regularly established on the Jordan; and secondly, because Jordan overflowed all his banks all the time of harvest Joshua 3:15. The channel or bed of the river became brimful, so that the level of the water and of the banks was then the same. (Dr. Selah Merrill, in his book Galilee in the Time of Christ (1881), says, Near Tarichaea, just below the point where the Jordan leaves the lake (of Galilee), there was (in Christs time) a splendid bridge across the river, supported by ten piers. ED.) The last feature which remains to be noticed in the scriptural account of the Jordan is its frequent mention as a boundary: over Jordan, this and the other side, or beyond Jordan, were expressions as familiar to the Israelites as across the water, this and the other side of the Channel are to English ears. In one sense indeed, that is, in so far as it was the eastern boundary of the land of Canaan, it was the eastern boundary of the promised land Numbers 34:12. The Jordan rises from several sources near Panium (Banias ), and passes through the lakes of Merom (Huleh) and Gennesaret. The two principal features in its course are its descent and its windings. From its fountain heads to the Dead Sea it rushes down one continuous inclined plane, only broken by a series of rapids or precipitous falls. Between the Lake of Gennesaret and the Dead Sea there are 27 rapids. The depression of the Lake of Gennesaret below the level of the Mediterranean Isaiah 653 feet, and that of the Dead Sea 1316 feet. (The whole descent from its source to the Dead Sea Isaiah 3000 feet. Its width varies from 45 to 180 feet, and it is from 3 to 12 feet deep. Schaff.) Its sinuosity is not so remarkable in the upper part of its course. The only tributaries to the Jordan below Gennesaret are the Yarmuk (Hieromax) and the Zerka (Jabbok). Not a single city ever crowned the banks of the Jordan. Still Bethshan and Jericho to the west, Gerasa, Pella and Gadara to the east of it were important cities, and caused a good deal of traffic between the two opposite banks. The physical features of the Ghor, through which the Jordan flows, are treated of under PALESTINE(click here)..

Hittites
The Hittiteo(s)=So, just who were the Hittite(s)? We can look to two places for our answer, either Genesis 10, or I Chronicles 1:15-17(click here). We read in Genesis 10, that Noah begat three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japeth. These three sonsand their wiveslike Noah and his wife, were perfect in their Generations; meaning, they had not mated with the fallen angels of Genesis 6:1-5(click here). These three sons and their wives went aboard the ark with Noah and his wife. After the flood, after coming onto dry land and many months passedenough time for Noah to plant and grow a vineyardNoah drank the wine from his vineyard and got drunk. Upon discovering their father drunkFathers Word does not say whether Noahs wife was also drunkHam then saw the nakedness of his father Noahto uncover your fathers nakedness, means to have intercourse with his wife, this is either your own mother or your step-mothersee Leviticus 18, and for further clarification see Leviticus 20:11in this case, Ham had intercourse with his own motherthis was an incestuous affair, see Genesis 9:22-23(click here)the laws of incest will not be given until Leviticus 18 and Leviticus 20and from this unionFathers Word does not say whether Noahs wife was drunk or not, nor does it say if she was a willing participant or whether Ham raped his own mothercame Canaan. We know Canaan was Hams son, because, we read in Genesis 10:6, the following: Genesis 10:6 And the sonsH1121 of Ham;H2526 Cush,H3568 and Mizraim,H4714 and Phut,H6316 and Canaan.H3667   —>   Canaan was the son of Ham and his mother, Noahs wife. Because of this incestuous copulation and its result, Noah cursed CanaanNoah had to live with the knowledge that his wife was pregnantthink of the lost nights of love-making and her days and nights of irritabilitywith a child that was not his and then had to watch this child growand he therefore drove Canaan from his territory, as he desired to not see this child on a daily basis. To a degree, Im sure this being driven from his family, hurt Canaan and he became bitter because and for it. He also most likely at this point, turned from the God of his grandfather, Father YHVH, to serving other false gods and idols. I am also pretty sure his being driven to a strange land opened him to the introduction of the second influx of the fallen angels, and his offspring then started re-mating with them like he and their cousins the Amoritessee …forH3588 the iniquityH5771 of the AmoritesH567 is notH3808 yetH5704 H2008 full.H8003 of Genesis 15:16(click here). Canaan then married, Fathers Word does not say who his wife wasfor all we know, she could have been the offspring of one of the fallen angels and flesh womanbut, he then began siring his own children as we read beginning Genesis 10:15: Genesis 10:15 And CanaanH3667 begatH3205 (H853) SidonH6721 his firstborn,H1060 and Heth,H2845   —>   We are now reading of Canaans descendants here in these verses. Sidon is Canaans firstborn, and Heth his second. Heth as we see, is in the Strongs Concordance, Hebrew word number: H2845(click here). This is important as we see by looking at the definition/description of the Hittite(s) in the Strongs Concordance, where we find the Strongs Concordance Hebrew word number for the Hittite(s) is: H2850, - חתּי, - chittı̂y, - pronounced: khit-teeי, and means: Patronymic from H2845; a Chittite, or descendant of Cheth: - Hittite, Hittites. Total KJV occurrences: 46.. So, as we see, the Hittite(s) are the descendants of Canaans son Heth. The first mention in Fathers Word concerning the Hittites is found in Genesis 23, where we read of the accounting of Abrahams wife, Sarah, dying and he wanting to bury her. Abraham was living among the sons of Heth in Kirjath-arba, which is Hebron, in the land of Canaan. Abraham approached the Hittites, asking to buy from them a piece of land in order to bury Sarah. The Hittites refused payment from Abraham, telling him that he is their friend and need not pay for the land they would give him; but, he could bury Sarah among their dead. Abraham refused and asked that they entreat Ephron the son of Zohar for the cave Machpelah, which was in the end of his field, that he would pay for it whatever Ehpron desired. Negotiating ensued and in the end, Abraham paid Ephron 400 shekles of silver for the cave Mechpelah and also received an receipt was made sure. So, the cave and the land surrounding it which Abraham bought from this Hittite Ephron is not only the burying place of Sarah; but, also, Abraham, Isaac, Rebekah and Leah, and it is in Hebron, in Israel today. But it was indeed purchased, bought and paid for, with 400 shekles, from the Hittites. These Hittitesthough Adamicwere living in the land of Canaanthe land named after his grandfatherThe Promised Land. The Hittitesalong with all the other descendants of Canaan, i.e, the Amorites, the Girgashites, the Hamathites, the Hivites, the Jebusites, and the Perizziteswere all mating with the fallen angels; which is why Father instructed our forefathers to utterly destroy them as He was moving them into the Promised Land. Our forefathers failed to do so, and because they failed to do so, they were a sword in our forefathers side for many, centuries. For the etymology of the name Hittite, we read the following in Abarim Publications: The true etymology of the name Heth and the derived ethnonym Hittite is unknown, but the Hebrew spellings of these names are clearly kindred to the verb חתת (hatat): For the meaning of the name Hittite, neither New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List nor Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names list any suggestions but refer to the name Heth. The name Hittite means Terrible or Fearsome.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Descendants of Heth. The nation descended from Cheth (Authorized Version Heth), the second son of Canaan. Abraham bought from the children of Heth the field and the cave of Machpelah, belonging to Ephron the Hittite. They were then settled at the town which was afterwards, under its new name of Hebron, to become one of the most famous cities of Palestine, and which then bore the name of Kir-jath-arba, (Genesis 23:19; 25:9). When the Israelites entered the promised land, we find the Hittites taking part against the invader, in equal alliance with the other Canaanite tribes, (Joshua 9:1; 11:3) etc...
Amorites
Amoriteo(s)=There is very much history\information in Fathers Word concerning the Amorite(s); far too much to completely go into here; so Ill briefly touch on the reason Father wants the Amorite(s) destroyed. Researching the name, title, and\or word in the Strongs Concordance, we find that there are 14 verses and 14 matches for the for the word Amorite, 72 verses and 73 matches for the word Amorites, and 86 verses and 87 matches for the Strongs Hebrew word number: H567, with only 2 of those verses\matches in the genealogical listings of Genesis 10 and I Chronicles 1:14(click here). The Amorites are first mentioned only a scant 4 Chapters after we are introduced to them, and in our first meeting, as we read in Genesis 14, that Abram wasas Father had told him in Genesis 12:1-7living in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, which was in Hebron, which was in Canaan. At this point of our introduction to the Amorite, we find that Abram was confederate withhad befriended3 Amorites, one whom had named the land he was living in, one named Escholbrother to Mamreand their brother Aner. Abram had to leave his home in Mamre for a short time because of a famine; but, returned to his home as soon as the famine was over. Shortly after his return several kings had gathered together in order to fight against and smite the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzims in Ham, the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim, and the Horites which were in their mount Seir, unto Elparan, which is by the wilderness. During this raid, these kings spoiled the land, taking much goods and people, including Abrams nephew Lot who was living in Sodom at this time. When Abram heard that Lot was captive, he gathered himself, his 300 servants, which actually included the Amorites and their men, and went and killed all those who had captured Lot. Afterwards, the king of Sodom came to Abram thanking him and offering him the goods; but, wanted to take the people for himself. Abram told the king of Sodom that he would not take any goods; but, instead return with those who had came with him and his nephew and his family. In the very next Chapter, Genesis 15(click here)Father tells Abram that his descendants will inherit the land to where He had moved Abram; but, first, they had go to into captivity for those 400 years. Why? Because He wanted to Judge Egypt for their unrighteousness, and as Father told Abram: Genesis 15:16 But in the fourthH7243 generationH1755 they shall come hither again:H7725 H2008 forH3588 the iniquityH5771 of the AmoritesH567 is notH3808 yetH5704 H2008 full.H8003   —>   What was the iniquity of the Amorites? What is it that they were doing? They were messing with, and mating with, the fallen angels which had come back after the flood of Noahs time which we can read of in Genesis 6(click here). This mating produced hybrid offspring the mighty men or the gibbor the giants. The same as Goliath and Og to name two, but there were many more Goliaths brother, who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot. For more references and reading on these fallen angels and their hybrid offspring, follow the links in Dr. Bullingers Companion Bible: Companion Bible Appendix 23(click here) The sons of God and Companion Bible Appendix 25(click here) The nephilim of Genesis 6. These Amorites were of the Adamic seedline the seedline through which Father Himself would be born as His Son Emmanuel God with us Jesus Christ. Therefore, He was not about to let this mixing continue for too long, just long enough for Abrams descendants to grow in number and strength so that He could bring them back to utterly destroy these people and their hybrid offspring. Sadly, most people have no knowledge why Father would tell the Israelites to utterly destroy these people man, woman and child but they accept the fact that He said to do so. For the etymology of the name Amorite, we read the following in Abarim Publications, According to Genesis 10:16, the Amorites are descendants of Canaan, a son of Ham, a son of Noah. The Amorites are mentioned in all kinds of very early, non-Biblical material. Their origins are unclear and we also dont know in what language the name Amorite was first pronounced. And that makes it impossible to guess what it may have meant to the original name-giver. Although the Bible doesnt mention it, we may readily assume that the name Amorite comes from the name Amor (which of course has nothing to do with the Latin word amor, meaning love). In Hebrew the latter is identical to the verb אמר (ssיamar), meaning to speak or say: If the Amorites had played a part in a Latin text, the audience would have probably understood them to be The Lover Boys. To a Hebrew audience, however, the Amorites are the Talkers.. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find it is Hebrew word number: H567, - אמריi, - יĕmôrı̂y, pronounced - em-o-reeי, and means: Probably a patronymic from an unused name derived from H559; in the sense of publicity, that is, prominence; thus a mountaineer; an Emorite, one of the Canaanitish tribes: - Amorite. total KJV occurrences: 87.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: (dwellers on the summits, mountaineers). One of the chief nations who possessed the land of Canaan before its conquest by the Israelites. As dwelling on the elevated portions of the country, they are contrasted with the Canaanites, who were the dwellers in the lowlands; and the two thus formed the main broad divisions of the Holy Land Numbers 13:29, and see 14:7; Deuteronomy 1:7,20 Mountain of the Amorites; 1:44; Joshua 5:1; 10:6; 11:3. They first occupied the barren heights west of the Dead Sea, at the place called afterwards Engedi. From this point they stretched west to Hebron. At the date of the invasion of the country, Sihon, their then king, had taken the rich pasture land south of the Jabbok. This rich tract, bounded by the Jabbok on the north, the Arnon on the south, the Jordan on the west and the wilderness on the east Judges 11:21,22, was, perhaps in the most special sense the land of the Amorites Numbers 21:31; Joshua 12:2,3; 13:10; Judges 11:21,22, but their possessions are distinctly stated to have extended to the very foot of Hermon Deuteronomy 3:8; 4:48, embracing Gilead and all Bashan Deuteronomy 3:10, with the Jordan valley on the east of the river Deuteronomy 4:49. After the conquest of Canaan nothing of importance is heard of the Amorites in the Bible..
Canaanites
Canaanites=The Canaanites comprise a group of families who were descended from a man named Canaan, and are collectively called or known as the Canaanites. After the flood, after coming onto dry land and many months passedenough time for Noah to plant and grow a vineyardNoah drank the wine he made from the grapes he grew in his vineyard and got drunk. Because of this incestuous copulation and its result, Noah cursed CanaanNoah had to live with the knowledge that his wife was pregnantthink of the lost nights of love-making and her days and nights of irritabilitywith a child that was not his and then had to watch this child growand he therefore cursed Canaan and drove him from his territory, as he desired to not see this child on a daily basis. To a degree, Im sure this being driven from his family, hurt Canaan and he became bitter because and for it. He also most likely at this point, turned from the God of his grandfather, Father YHVH, to serving other false gods and idols. I am also pretty sure his being driven to a strange land opened him to satans influence and the introduction to the second influx of the fallen angels. Canaan then married, Fathers Word does not say who his wife wasfor all we know, she could have been the offspring of one of the fallen angels and flesh womanbut, he then began siring his own children as we read in Genesis 10:15-18, where we read: Genesis 10:15 And CanaanH3667 begatH3205 (H853) SidonH6721 his firstborn,H1060 and Heth,H2845   —>   Canaans first two children, both sons, are named Sidon, of who we read nothing of in Fathers Word. There was a land named after him, which was the oldest of the Canaanites cities and which is also spelled Zidon. There is nothing written in Fathers Word of anything this man did or accomplished, there is no mention, not even that he had any children of his own. Canaans second son, Heth, like his older brother, we read in Fathers Word, nothing of this man; however, we can and do read much concerning his offspring, the Hittites(click here). We change beginning with the next verse, no longer listing individuals, but, families of a partiarch. [10:16] And the Jebusite,H2983 and the Amorite,H2983 and the Girgasite,H1622 [10:17] And the Hivite,H2340 and the Arkite,H6208 and the Sinite,H5513 [10:18] And the Arvadite,H721 and the Zemarite,H6786 and the Hamathite:H2577 and afterwardH310 were the familiesH4940 of the CanaanitesH3669 spread abroad.H6327 [10:19] And the borderH1366 of the CanaanitesH3669 wasH1961 from Sidon,H4480 H6721 as thou comestH935 to Gerar,H1642 untoH5704 Gaza;H5804 as thou goest,H935 unto Sodom,H5467 and Gomorrah,H6017 and Admah,H126 and Zeboim,H6636 even untoH5704 Lasha.H3962 [10:20] TheseH428 are the sonsH1121 of Ham,H2526 after their families,H4940 after their tongues,H3956 in their countries,H776 and in their nations.H1471   —>   It's important to understand where the names of these tribes of people come from: each tribe is named for its founderi.e., Israelites are named for their ancestor, Israel. So, these tribes are named for the direct decendants of Hams son, Canaan. They are either his grandsons, great-grandsons, or great-great-grandsons, etc., who had their own children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and so forth, and stayed altogether in the same geographic areathe land named after Canaan, the land of Canaanthereby creating a tribe and quite possibly, a city or even a large region named after themselves. There is very much history\information in Fathers Word concerning the Canaanites in their dealings with our forefathers, the Israelites. This interaction began as Father was leading our forefathers up, out of Egypt and into the Promised Land, the land of Canaan which He had promised to give to Abraham in Genesis 12, where we read: Genesis 12:1 Now the LORDH3068 had saidH559 untoH413 Abram,H87 “Get thee outH1980 of thy country,H4480 H776 and from thy kindred,H4480 H4138 and from thy father’s house,H4480 H1004 H1 untoH413 a landH776 thatH834 I will shewH7200 thee:   —>   This was Abrahams first call by Father, and He was going to show him the land which Father will give to him and his descendants. Skip down with me to verse v12:5: [12:5] And AbramH87 tookH3947 (H853) SaraiH8297 his wife,H802 and LotH3876 his brother’sH251 son,H1121 and allH3605 their substanceH7399 thatH834 they had gathered,H7408 and the soulsH5315 thatH834 they had gottenH6213 in Haran;H2771 and they went forthH3318 to goH1980 into the landH776 of Canaan;H3667 and into the landH776 of CanaanH3667 they came.H935 [12:6] And AbramH87 passed throughH5674 the landH776 untoH5704 the placeH4725 of Sichem,H7927 untoH5704 the plainH436 of Moreh.H4176 And the CanaaniteH3669 was thenH227 in the land.H776 [12:7] And the LORDH3068 appearedH7200 untoH413 Abram,H87 and said,H559Unto thy seedH2233 will I giveH5414 (H853) thisH2063 land:”H776 and thereH8033 buildedH1129 he an altarH4196 unto the LORD,H3068 who appearedH7200 untoH413 him.   —>   So, Father guided Abraham to the land of Canaan and then told him that He would give him all this land. This Pastor and author of this study cannot help that the land was named after Hams son Canaan, and Ill conceede that this was the land Canaan went to after his grandfather Noah banished him from his own territory. With that being said, this Pastor offers several subjective thoughts: (1) First and foremost, Father Created this earth, therefore it is His Right to give whatever land He wants to give to whoever He chooses, and He chose to give this land to Abraham and then his descendants; (2) it is my supposition that this land is where the Garden of Eden was, why? Because the Promised Land is Fathers most favorite place in all His Created Universe, this is the land flowing with milk and honey, this land is the land He took to wife, this is where He will be born in the flesh, where He will be crucified, ressurect and ascend up to heaven, and also to where He will return for His Second Advent; (3) satan having never been born in the flesh, having been in the Garden of Eden as the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and knowing Fathers plan, very well may have immediately went to Canaan to guide him into this land which he would later name after himself, satan also knew that Father would now be born in the flesh through the lineage of Abraham, so he has Canaan enter and pre-occupy this land to try and dispute Abraham and his descendants entrance into it. He also has the fallen angels here in this land to again try and corrupt the seed-line through which Father will come. In either case, the descendants of Ham and his brother Japeth have been at war with their cousins for millenia, were seeing them rise up against Fathers Chosen People again todayNov 2023, as in October, they launched an unprovoked attack. Father directed Joshua and the People of the House of Israel to utterly destroy these offspring of Canaan when He was moving our forefathers into the Promised Land, sadly, our forefathers failed to listen to Father and do as commanded and they have been a thorn in their side for over 3,475 years. Abarim Publications does not provide an etymology for the name Canaanite, they only provide one for the patriarch, Canaan. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find it is Hebrew word number: H3669, - ככְּנַעַנִי, - kenaיanı̂y, pronounced - ken-ah-an-eeי, and means: Patrial from H3667; humiliated, a Kenaanite or inhabitant of Kenaan; by implication a pedlar (the Cananites standing for their neighbors the Ishmaelites, who conducted mercantile caravans): - Canaanite, merchant, trafficker. total KJV occurrences: 74.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: A word used in two senses: A tribe which inhabited a particular locality of the land west of the Jordan before the conquest; and The people who inhabited generally the whole of that country. In (Genesis 10:18-20) the seats of the Canaanite tribe are given as on the seashore and in the Jordan valley; compare, (Joshua 11:3). Applied as a general name to the non-Israelite inhabitants of the land, as we have already seen was the case with Canaan. Instances of this are, (Genesis 12:6; Numbers 21:3). The Canaanites were descendants of Canaan. Their language was very similar to the Hebrew. The Canaanites were probably given to commerce; and thus the name became probably in later times an occasional synonym for a merchant..
Perizzites
Perizzites=There is much history between our forefathers and these Perizzites and none of it good. We dont know the origin of them, as they are not mentioned in any genealogical listing. What we do know is that they were inhabitants of Canaan, the Promised Land, and Father told our forefathers that when He brought them into the Promised Land, they would be there and our forefathers were to utterly destroy them. Just about every time we read of the Hittites, the Perizzites are mentioned with them. In any case, every mention of them is with the listings of the Canaanites, or twice with the giants, once directly and once with the rephaims. We can safely and strongly assume they were mating with the fallen angels, and it was for this reason Father wanted them utterly destroyed. For the etymology of the name Perizzites, we read the following from Abarim Publications: The name Perizzite is identical to the noun פרזי (perazi), meaning rural or villager: For a meaning of the name Perizzites, Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names reads Villagers and New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List has the elaborate Dwellers In The Open Country. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary does not offer an explanation for our name and expresses doubt whether it technically derives from our root (which wouldnt change the meaning of it relative to the story). By the time Israel invaded Canaan, there appear to have been two distinct forms of society present, namely an urban society based on cities surrounded by large agrarian estates, and a feral society based on small tribal groups that had retained a semi-nomadic or hunter lifestyle. The name Canaanite appears to have applied mostly to the urban society. The urban society had a complex economy, was endowed with functional diversity and was stratified into classes. It had political leaders, a wisdom class, a central treasury and collective storehouses of accumulated surplus, and a class of professional soldiers to guard and enforce rule. It had complex technology such as roads, buildings and machinery. And it had script, administration and legal codes. The name Perizzite appears to have referred to people who wanted none of all of that, who rejected urban living, centralized leadership and complex technology. The price they paid for their freedom was that they also had no script and hence no wisdom beyond that which was passed on to them orally.s Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find it is Hebrew word number: H6522, - פְּרִזִּי, - perizzı̂y, pronounced - per-iz-zeeי, and means: For H6521; inhabitant of the open country, Rustic,a Perizzite; one of the Canaanitish tribes: Perizzite. total KJV occurrences: 23.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Belonging to a village. One of the nations inhabiting the land of promise before and at the time of its conquest by Israel. They are continually mentioned in the formula so frequently occurring to express the promised land Genesis 15:20; Exodus 3:8,17; 23:23; 33:2; 34:11. The notice in the book of Judges locates them in the southern part of the holy land. The signification of the name is not by any means clear. It possibly meant rustics, dwellers in open, unwalled villages, which are denoted by a similar word..
Hivites
Hivites=The first thing we notice when we research the name Hivite, is that he was a son of Canaan, the son of the incestuous relationship between Ham and his own mother, Noahs wife. The second thing we notice, is that he, like several of his brothers, is addressed as the …. When we further research the word(s) Hivite, Hivites, and the Strongs word number associated with it: H2340, we find first that these peoples, or maybe their father, tried to associated this ones name with being the giver of life; as, when we trace the Strongs number back toward its Prime, we discover that, that is what the name means Causative from H2332; lifegiver; Chavvah (or Eve), the first woman: - Eve.. There are 9 verses and 9 matches for the word Hivite, 16 verses and 16 matches for the word Hivites, and 25 verses and matches for the Strongs word number H2340. With this many verses and matches, obviously, there is much history\information in Fathers Word concerning these Hivite(s); far too much to completely go into here in this Chapter\Paragraph. So Ill briefly touch on the reasons Father wanted the Hivite(s) destroyed: the first mention of the descendants of The Hivite can be found in Genesis 34 where we read that one of them had raped Dinah, the daughter of Jacob and Leah. Now, the rape of someone by one person does not bring punishment upon a whole people; so, that is not the reason Father wanted our forefathers to utterly destroy the Hivites; so, it must be for another reason. The next mention of the descendants of The Hivite can be found when we read in Genesis 36 that Esau had taken two wives: one named Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and the other, named Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite. Now, this was Esau, yes he was the son of Isaac and Rebekah and they were not pleased with his decision; but, that still doesnt warrant the destruction of an entire people; so, it must be for another reason. The Hivite(s) is mentioned several times in the beginning of the Book of Exodus: Exodus 3:8,17; 13:5; and then we come to Exodus 23 where we read: Exodus 23:20 Behold,H2009 IH595 sendH7971 an AngelH4397 beforeH6440 thee, to keepH8104 thee in the way,H1870 and to bringH935 thee intoH413 the placeH4725 whichH834 I have prepared.H3559   —>   Who is this Angel Father going is to send to Moses and our forefathers? It is my contention that this is Jesus before He was born in the flesh, you can read my reasoning by clicking here. The next several verses will also bear this out. This promise by Father is a Covenant Promise by Father to His People, and it is just as good today as it was during the time of the Exodus. Father is promising each of us an angel to go before us to keep us in the way of His Word. He will bring us into the place which He has prepared for you and I to be in. Remember, when this was written, the Children of Israel were at the foot of Mount Sinai, and Father is going to send this Angel to them in order to bring them into this place in the Promised Land which He has prepared for our forefathers. [23:21] BewareH8104 ofH4480 H6440 him, and obeyH8085 his voice,H6963 provokeH4843 him not;H408 forH3588 he will notH3808 pardonH5375 your transgressions:H6588 forH3588 my nameH8034 is inH7130 him.   —>   Again, this Angel was none other than Father Himself, for He was there with them, speaking to them, and making His presence felt by all. Father lead them by that pillar of fire by night, and in the cloud by day to protect our forefathers. Father YHVH manifest as His Angel was there to guide and direct His children. Dont forget, Father is in a different dimension than we are in, and your soul has to be dead in order to be able to enter into that dimension. [23:22] ButH3588 ifH518 thou shalt indeed obeyH8085 H8085 his voice,H6963 and doH6213 allH3605 thatH834 I speak;H1696 then I will be an enemyH340 (H853) unto thine enemies,H341 and an adversaryH6696 (H853) unto thine adversaries.H6887   —>   Here is another Promise by Father: IF we obey His voice, i.e., His Commandments, His Judgments, His Laws, His Ordinances and His Statutes; then, He will be with us, and our adversaries and enemies will be His adversaries and enemies. [23:23] ForH3588 Mine AngelH4397 shall goH1980 beforeH6440 thee, and bring thee inH935 untoH413 the Amorites,H567 and the Hittites,H2850 and the Perizzites,H6522 and the Canaanites,H3669 the Hivites,H2340 and the Jebusites:H2983 and I will cut them off.H3582   —>   These were the sixlater seven, and in reality, even several more as; missing are The Arkites, The Arvadites, The Girgashites, The Hamathites, The Sinites, and The Zemaritesnations who Father wanted utterly destroyed because of their obeying satan, serving other false gods, and for mating with the fallen angels. Notice also in this verse, that The Hivites do not have the and before their name like the others do? [23:24] Thou shalt notH3808 bow downH7812 to their gods,H430 norH3808 serveH5647 them, norH3808 doH6213 after their works:H4639 butH3588 thou shalt utterly overthrowH2040 H2040 them, and quite break downH7665 H7665 their images.H4676   —>   So, once Father had gone before our forefathers and utterly destroyed these abominal peoples\nations; then, our forefathers were to go in and destroy all their false gods, i.e., their statues and sacred pillars which they had carved in order to bow down before them. Our next encounter\mention with\of the Hivite(s) is where Joshua and our forefathers really got themselves into trouble when they interacted with them as can be read in Joshua 9(click here)for it was the Hivites who came to Joshua and the elders of our forefathers and convinced them that they had traveled for many miles in order to be able to join onto our forefathers so that they could serve Father YHVH; however, it was discovered 3 days later that they had lied as to who they were, they were part of the tribes of the Canaanites whom our forefathers were to utterly destroy because they were mating with the fallen angels. Sadly, since Joshua and the elders had made a covenant with themwithout first consulting Fatherthey then could not destroy them for fear they would anger Father; so, they made them hewers of wood and drawers of water for both the people and even more sadly, for the Altar of Father YHVH. Then later, when the Priests and Levites became lazy they took over the Priesthood, Ezra and Nehemiah identified them and expelled them as they were returning from the Babylonian captivity; however, in the 450 or so years between returning to Jerusalem and Jesus birth, they had retaken over the Priesthood and He contended with them every day He walked in the flesh. It was they who crucified Him, laying the blame on Judah. For the etymology of the name Perizzite, we read the following in Abarim Publications, The Hivites were a nation that descended from Canaan, son of Ham, son of Noah (Genesis 10:17). The first time they play an active role in the Bible is when Shechem the Hivite raped Dinah, the daughter of Jacob and Leah, and full blood sister of Simeon and Levi (Genesis 34). The brothers bloody revenge cost them their second and third-born status, and their descendants were condemned to be dispersed in Israel without any land of their own (Genesis 49:5-7). And while Jacob and his family were trying to deal with the Hivite problem, Jacobs brother Esau acquired Oholibamah the Hivite as a wife for himself (for a discussion on whether Oholibamah the Hivite was the same as Oholibamah the Horite, see our article on the name Horite). When the Israelites escaped Egypt and made it to Canaan, the Hivites were firmly established as one of the seven Canaanite nations (Deuteronomy 1:7), whose complete destruction YHVH promised (by hornets: Exodus 23:23-28; by an angel: Exodus 33:2; by the Israelites themselves: Deuteronomy 20:17, by the power of the Ark of the Covenant: Joshua 3:10-11). When Joshua and the Israeli army attacked, the nations of Canaan united into a coalition. But the men of the Hivite city Gibeon tricked Israel into saving them and having them serve as slaves (Joshua 9:7, 9:26-27). The coalition (still containing the remaining Hivites) counter struck with a huge army (Joshua 11:4), but eventually (almost) all were slain and (almost) all their cities were taken (Joshua 11:19). By the time of the judges, the Hivites still lived on and near Mounts Lebanon and Baal-hermon (Judges 3:3), and so did the other Canaanite nations. The Israelites began to intermarry with them and threatened to dissolve, and the Lord sent a long string of enemy kings to oppress them, and corresponding judges to liberate them. By the time David ordered his ill-fated census, the Hivites were still around in the north of Israel (II Samuel 24:7). And when Solomon began his great building project, of which the Temple of YHVH was the apex, the Hivites were still going strong enough for Solomon to levy forced laborers of (I Kings 9:20-21). Post-Biblical Jewish commentators declared that the name Hivite came from the Chaldean word חויא, meaning Serpent, but that etymology might have been slightly biased. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names and Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary suggest relations with the noun חוה (hawa) meaning tent-village: The name Hivite possibly means Tent Villagers (BDB Theological Dictionary and Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names). New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List does not translate this name.. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word Number: H2340, - חוּי, - chivvı̂y, - pronounced: khiv-veeי, and means: Perhaps from H2333; a villager; a Chivvite, one of the aboriginal tribes of Palestine: - Hivite. Total KJV occurrences: 25.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: (villagers). The, descendantsthe six in orderof Canaan the son of Ham Genesis 10:17; I Chronicles 1:15. We first encounter the actual people of the Hivites at the time of Jacobs return to Canaan Genesis 34:2. We next meet with the Hivites during the conquest of Canaan Joshua 9:7; 11:19. The main body of the Hivites were at this time living in the northern confines of western Palestine under Hermon, in the land of Mizpeh Joshua 11:3, in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon to the entering in of Hamath Judges 3:3, compare with II Samuel 24:7..
Jebusites
Jebusite(s)=Fathers Word does not provide the name of the Jebusites actual father. We read in Genesis 10:15-16 that: Genesis 10:15 And CanaanH3667 begatH3205 (H853) SidonH6721 his firstborn,H1060 and Heth,H2845 [10:16] And the Jebusite,H2983 and the Amorite,H567 and the Girgasite,H1622   —>   So we dont know if the Jebusite was Canaans actual son, his grandson, great-grandson, or great-great-grandson. etc.. In either case, its funny, strange, and/or unique, that Fathers Word identifies this one and several othersevery mention of the group of tribes of the Canaanites, are/is identified/labeled as such, i.e., the Amorite(s); the Arkite(s); the Arvadite(s); the Girgasite(s); the Hamathite(s); the Hittite(s); the Hivite(s); and the Zemarite(s). As such, the people called the Jebusites are possibly the descendants of one unmentioned Jebus, who in turn is then a descendant of Canaan, son of Ham, son of Noah, etc.. However, the name Jebus is only applied to JerusalemJudges 19:10(click here)I Chronicles 11:4(click here)and the Jebusites may just be the townsfolk of Jebus, all somehow descending from Canaan, but not necessarily through a younger single ancestor. The Jebusites were probably the first settlers of the area which would later be Jerusalem. King Davids capital was originally Hebron, but he moved it to Jerusalem after conquering the latter from the JebusitesII Samuel 5:6-10(click here). It should be noted that prior to Davids annexation of Jerusalem, Israel once before conquered, burned and apparently abandoned JerusalemJudges 1:8. There is very much history\information concerning The Jebusites and our forefathers, and thankfully Father gave the Jebusites into our forefathers hand. The name, title, or word, Jebusite, is mentioned 14 times in Fathers Word, 12 of which, are outside the genealogical listings of Genesis 10 and I Chronicles 1; however, the Strongs Hebrew word associated with it, is mentioned in 39 verses with 41 matches. The Jebusite was the founder of Jebus; however, after our forefathers inhabited the land, they renamed it: Jerusalem. The Citadel was afterward named Zion, which was South of MoriahII Samuel 5:6-10(click here)we can compare this with Ezekiel 16:3,45 which explains the connection of the Jebusite here, with the Amorite and the HittiteHethof Genesis 10:16. Only two Jebusites are mentioned by name, the first is mentioned as Father was leading our forefathers into the Promised Land. We read in Joshua 10, that, right after Joshua and the elders had foolishly allowed themselves to be deceived by the Hivittes of Gibeon, that Adoni-zedek, king of Jerusalem, sent to Hoham, king of Hebron, Piram, king of Jarmuth, to Japhia, king of Lachish, and to Debir, the king of Eglon asking for these four kings to join him in going to Gibeon and smiting the Hivittes because they had made peace with Israel and were among them. When hearing of this, the Hivittes then came to Joshua asking him to fulfill his promise to protect them. Father then came to Joshua and told him to fear not, for He was delivering these five kings into his hand. Joshua and the Israelite army made war against these five kings and their people, Father rained down hailstones from heaven, whereby, more died from the hailstones than they who died by the sword. The five kings themselves hid in a cave and Joshua told him war-fighters to roll a large stones against the mouth of the cave until they finished their slaughtering of the people. Once the slaughter was complete, Joshua and his war-fighters reopened the cave, brought out the five kings and smote them and slew them and then hung their dead carcasses on trees until evening. The next Jebusite we read of was a man named Araunah. We are introduced to AraunahII Samuel 24(click here)also read of in I Chronicles 21(click here) where we read this same Araunah is called Ornanafter king David allowed himself to be tempted by satan into his wanting to know the number of war-fighters under him. Davids nephew Joab tried to talk David out of this numbering, but David wouldnt listen. This angered Father, as David was putting his trust in his war-fighters and not in Father. Therefore, Father sent His Angel to His Prophet Gad to tell David that he had to make one of three choices: Seven years of famine in Israel; fleeing three months from his enemy; or three days of pestilence in Israel. David told Gad to allow Father do as He please and Father sent the pestilence from the morning until the time appointed and then stayed His Angels hand at Araunahs threshingplace. Father then told Gad to tell David to rear up an altar there at Araunahs. David told Araunah that he desired to buy his threshingplace, Araunah told David that he would give it him, but, rightfully, David refused and purchased Araunahs threshingplace, built the altar to Father and offered sacrifices to Him. For the etymology of the name Jebusite, we read the following from Abarim Publications: The etymogoly of the name Jebusite comes from the Hebrew verb בוס (bus), meaning to trample down: None of the sources used offer an interpretation of the ethnonym Jebusit, but for a meaning of the name Jebus, Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names reads Treading Down and New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List has Trodden Underfoot.. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H2983, - יבוּסי, - yebûsı̂y, - pronounced: yeb-oo-seeי, and means: Patrial from H2982; trodden, that is threshing place, a Jebusite or inhabitant of Jebus: - Jebusite(-s). Total KJV occurrences: 41.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: The Jebusites were descended from the third son of Canaan Genesis 10:16; I Chronicles 1:14. The actual people first appear in the invaluable report of the spies Numbers 13:29. When Jabin organized his rising against Joshua, the Jebusites joined him Joshua 11:3. Jebus, which is Jerusalem, lost its king in the slaughter of Beth-horon Joshua 10:1,5,26, with which we can compare with Joshua 12:10. Was sacked and burned by the men of Judah Judges 1:21, and its citadel finally scaled and occupied by David II Samuel 5:6. After this they emerge from the darkness but once, in the person of Araunah the Jebusite, Araunah the king, who appears before us in true kingly dignity in his well-known transaction with David II Samuel 24:23; I Chronicles 21:24,25..

Joshua
Joshua=Joshuaalso called, or known as: Oshea, Jehoshua, Jehsua and Jesuswhose name means: YEHOVAH-saved, whose help is YEHOVAH, or savior; was the son of a man named Nun and his un-named wife. They were descended from the Tribe of Ephraim, and Joshua was born in the year 1544B.C.27 years after the birth of Moseswhile our fofathers were still in captivity to the Egyptians. He was approximately 53 years old when he shared in all the events of the exodus from Egypt. He was Moses minister or servant, and his successor. When Father was telling Moses He was bringing him Home to Him, Moses asked who was going to lead His Prople? Lets turn to Numbers 27(click here) Numbers 27:15 And MosesH4872 spakeH1696 untoH413 the LORD,H3068 saying,H559 [27:16] “Let the LORD,H3068 the GodH430 of the spiritsH7307 of allH3605 flesh,H1320 setH6485 a manH376 overH5921 the congregation,H5712 [27:17] WhichH834 may go outH3318 beforeH6440 them, and whichH834 may go inH935 beforeH6440 them, and whichH834 may lead them out,H3318 and whichH834 may bring them in;H935 that the congregationH5712 of the LORDH3068 beH1961 notH3808 as sheepH6629 whichH834 have noH369 shepherd.”H7462   —>   Moses was always a wonderful intercessor, and here, though Father has told him He is bringing him Home to Him, he is still concerned for the People he has led for the past 38 years. Lets read of his telling of this, lets turn to Numbers 14(click here)and remember, the other ten spies had already given their false, evil report, saying that our forefathers could not enter into the Promised Land because of the giants, the sons of Anak: Numbers 14:6 And JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of Nun,H5126 and CalebH3612 the sonH1121 of Jephunneh,H3312 which were ofH4480 them that searchedH8448 (H853) the land,H776 rentH7167 their clothes:H899 [14:7] And they spakeH559 untoH413 allH3605 the companyH5712 of the childrenH1121 of Israel,H3478 saying,H559 “The land,H776 whichH834 we passed throughH5674 to searchH8446 it, is an exceedingH3966 H3966 goodH2896 land.H776 [14:8] IfH518 the LORDH3068 delightH2654 in us, then He will bringH935 us intoH413 thisH2063 land,H776 and giveH5414 it us; a landH776 whichH834 flowethH2100 with milkH2461 and honey.H1706 [14:9] OnlyH389 rebelH4775 notH408 ye against the LORD,H3068 neitherH408 fearH3372 yeH859 (H853) the peopleH5971 of the land;H776 forH3588 theyH1992 are breadH3899 for us: their defenceH6738 is departedH5493 fromH4480 H5921 them, and the LORDH3068 is withH854 us: fearH3372 them not.”H408   —>   It was for this reason Father chose him to replace Moses and lead our forefathers. Father further tells Moses: …a man in whom is the spirit…, our word spirit here as used here in this verse, is Fathers Holy Spirit, and is the spirit of wisdom with which we can compare this verse with Deuteronomy 34:9, where we read: Deuteronomy 34:9 And JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126 was fullH4392 of the spiritH7307 of wisdom;H2451 forH3588 MosesH4872 had laidH5564 (H853) his handsH3027 uponH5921 him: and the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 hearkenedH8085 untoH413 him, and didH6213 asH834 the LORDH3068 commandedH6680 (H853) Moses.H4872   —>   Where does this wisdom come from? It comes from Father YHVH. [27:19] And setH5975 him beforeH6440 EleazarH499 the priest,H3548 and beforeH6440 allH3605 the congregation;H5712 and give him a chargeH6680 (H853) in their sight.H5869 [27:20] And thou shalt putH5414 some of thine honourH4480 H1935 uponH5921 him, thatH4616 allH3605 the congregationH5712 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 may be obedient.H8085 [27:21] And he shall standH5975 beforeH6440 EleazarH499 the priest,H3548 who shall askH7592 counsel for him after the judgmentH4941 of UrimH224 beforeH6440 the LORD:H3068 atH5921 his wordH6310 shall they go out,H3318 and atH5921 his wordH6310 they shall come in,H935 both he,H1931 and allH3605 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 withH854 him, even allH3605 the congregation.”H5712. I like what Dr. Herbert Lockyer wrote concerning Joshua and will bring in his writings: THE MAN WHO WAS A SOLDIER-SAINT: Joshua has been rightly called, The first soldier consecrated by sacred history. A profitable way of studying his profile is to think of him in the following roles: *As a Son. Joshua was the son of Nun—a name meaning prosperity, durable—and of the tribe of Ephraim. Nothing is known of his mother. One usually finds, however, a good and gracious woman in the background of a man who reaches a position of influence and honor. Without doubt, Joshuas parents feared the God of Israel, and he continued their godly influence. *As a Slave. Born during the weary years of bondage his nation suffered in Egypt under Pharaoh, Joshua knew something of the lash of the whip, the almost impossible task in the brick-fields, and the deep sigh of liberty. But little did he realize that although a slave, he would rise to become Israel’s supreme leader and commander. He had witnessed the moral and social degradation of his countrymen brought about by the terrible idolatries of that time. Thus, when he came to the position of leadership, his solemn commands were colored by early experience (Joshus 24:15). *As a Soldier. Joshua was pre-eminent as a military leader who knew how to plan campaigns, discipline his forces, use spies, but above all, pray and trust in God. Many a general has closely studied Joshuas conquest of Canaan and followed his strategy. Read how he discomfited Amalek (Exodus 17:9-16)! He never stooped to pilfering and plunder. It was as true of him as of Sir Henry Havelock, of whom it was said, He was every inch a soldier, and every inch a Christian. Joshua was first of all a good soldier of the Lord whom he encountered and obeyed as Captain of the Lords host (Joshus 5:13-15). *As a Servant. Joshuas victory over Amalek gave him the open door of further usefulness and responsibility. That he was prepared for the responsibilities of leadership is evidenced by the fact that because of his unswerving loyalty and devotion, he is called the servant of Moses (Numbers 11:28; Joshus 1:1). *As a Spy. Joshua, along with eleven others, was chosen to search the land of Canaan (Numbers 13:1-16). It was at this time that Moses changed his servants name from Oshea or Hoshea, meaning help to Joshua, meaning Gods help or salvation. The changed name indicated the desire of Moses to lift the thoughts of the people Godward,, and to lead them from reliance upon leaders to Gods help. Along with Caleb, Joshua brought back a faithful report of the land, which the people rejected, and wandered thereby for forty years in the wilderness. But Joshua profited by such an experience (Joshus 2:1,2). *As a Saviour. Moses, representing the Law, brought the people to the border of the land, but it took a Joshua (Gods salvation) to take them into the land. Divinely commissioned for such a task, he was probably about eighty-five yearsmy interjection here, Joshua was 93of age when he assumed command at Shittim. What a saviour he was! How marvelously was he helped to roll away Israels reproach and to lead them to possess their possessions! His conquests and victories are typical of all the Lord has made possible for His own. *As a Statesman. What magnanimity and unselfish statesmanship Joshua revealed! Once the division of the land was completed, he carried through the setting up of the Tabernacle, the appointing of the cities of refuge, the arrangement of the Levitical order and service, with the same precision and thoroughness that characterized his other work as Israels Premier and leader. *As a Saint. Joshuas saintliness marked him out as Mosessuccessor (Deuteronomy 34:9). What a soldier-saint he was! *He was filled with the Spirit of God (Deuteronomy 34:9). *He enjoyed the presence of God (Joshus 1:5; 6:27). *He was indwelt by the word of God (Joshua 1:8). *He was ever obedient to the will of God (Numbers 32:12; Joshua 5:14). No wonder his death at 110 years of age was deeply mourned and his eminent service universally acknowledged! The brief but noble epitaph of the historian is eloquent with meaning, before Joshua, the servant of the Lord. Dead, he could yet speak, for the nation continued to serve the Lord all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua (Joshua 24:3).. These are all Beautiful and Wonderful descriptions of Joshua, and I will never take away all the good, positive and righteous acts of Joshua; but sadly and with somewhat hesitancy, this Pastor and author of this Study, must also bring forth Joshuas major shortcomingI would be remiss if I didntas, had Joshua sought Father and His counsel at a critical time, the Priesthood most likely would not have become corrupted. What do I mean and to what am I referring? I am referring to the events which transpired and took place in Joshua 9(click here) where we read that just after our forefathers destroyed Jericho and Ai, the six kings of the Canaanite Nationsthe Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusiteon this side of the Jordan River gathered themselves together to make war against our forefathers. At the same time, the Hivites of Gibeon heard what our forefathers had done to Jericho and Ai and decided they didnt want to be as the inhabitants of Jericho and Ai, so they deceitfully came to Joshua and the elders seeking to live among them. They lied as to who they were and where they came from and Joshua and the elders did not seek Father and accepted their lies and made a covenant, league or pact with them that they would not kill them. Three days later they discovered who these Hivites were, but by then it was too late. Again without seeking Father as to what they should now do, they made them temple servantslater called or known as nethinimsdrawers of water and cutters of wood for Fathers AltarEleazar the High Priest at the time also bears some responsibility in this as he should have objected to what Joshua was doing with them. Once they were assigened to these tasks, after time, the Priests and Levites became lazy and allowed these Hivite nethinim to take on more responsibilities, as time wore on, they actually began fulfilling the role of the Priests and the scribes. Father identified them for us in I Chronicles 2:55(click here), Jeremiah 24(click here) and Jeremiah 35(click here)and Jesus told us to learn of them when He told us to learn the Parable of the Fig Tree in Matthew 24:32 and Mark 13:28(click here). I say again, these nethinims took over the Priesthood even through the time of the captivity to the Babylonians, and as Ezra and Nehemiah were leading the large delegation back to Jerusalem to rebuilt the city, they both identified them and then expelled them from the Priesthoodbut not from the Nationyou and read of this in Exra 8:15; 9-10; Nehemiah 7:46-73; and 11:3,21. These same nethinim later, when the Priests and Levites again became lazy, re-took over the Priesthood, they were the sopherim(click here)and formed the great counsel, and were in charge during the time Father walked in the flesh as His Only Begotten Son, Jesus. They were the High Priest, the Pharisees, the Scribes, the Sadduccees, and the evil fig who claimed to be of Judah, who Jesus contended with every day He walked in the flesh, it was they who crucified Him, not our forefathers of the House of Judah. For the etymology of the name Joshua, we read the following in Abarim Publications: The name Joshua is a compilation of two elements, the first one being the appellative יה (Yah) = יהו (Yahu) = יו (Yu), which in turn are abbreviated forms of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, YHVH, or YAHVEH. The second element of the name Joshua/Jesus comes from the verb ישע (yashaי), meaning to save or deliver: Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary lists יהושע under יהוה and reads Yah Is Salvation. New Open Bible Study Edition NOBSE Study Bible Name List reads Yahveh Is Salvation. The name Joshua is the precise reversal of the name Isaiah (ישעיה).. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find the name Joshua is Hebrew word number: H3091, - יְהוֹשׁוּעַo, or יְהוֹשֻׁעַo, - yehôshûaיo, or yehôshûaיo, - pronounced: yeh-ho-shooי-ah, or yeh-ho-shooי-ah, and means: From H3068 and H3467, Jehovah-saved; Jehoshua (that is, Joshua), the Jewish leader: - Jehoshua, Jehoshuah, Joshua. Compare H1954, H3442. Total KJV occurrences: 218.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Savior or whose help is YAH. His name appears in the various forms of Hoshea, Oshea, Jehoshua, Jeshua and Jesus. •The son of Nun, of the tribe of Ephraim, (I Chronicles 7:27). He was nearly forty years oldmy interjection here, he was 53 during the exodus from Egyptwhen he shared in the hurried triumph of the exodus. He is mentioned first in connection with the fight against Amalek at Rephidim, when he was chosen by Moses to lead the Israelites, (Exodus 17:9). Soon afterward he was one of the twelve chiefs who were sent, (Numbers 13:17) to explore the land of Canaan, and one of the two, (Numbers 14:6) who gave an encouraging report of their journey. Moses, shortly before his death, was directed, (Numbers 27:18) to invest Joshua with authority over the people. God himself gave Joshua a charge by the mouth of the dying lawgiver, (Deuteronomy 31:14,23) Under the direction of God again renewed, (Joshua 1:1). Joshua assumed the command of the people at Shittim, sent spies into Jericho, crossed the Jordan, fortified a camp at Gilgal, circumcised the people, kept the passover, and was visited by the Captain of the Lords host. A miracle made the fall of Jericho more terrible to the Canaanites. In the great battle of Beth-horon the Amorites were signally routed, and the south country was open to the Israelites. Joshua returned to the camp at Gilgal, master of half of Palestine. He defeated the Canaanites under Jabin king of Hazor. In six years, six tribes, with thirty-one petty chiefs, were conquered. Joshua, now stricken in years, proceeded to make the division of the conquered land. Timnath-serah in Mount Ephraim was assigned as Joshuas peculiar inheritance. After an interval of rest, Joshua convoked an assembly from all Israel. He delivered two solemn addresses, recorded in (Joshua 23:24). He died at the age of 110 years, and was buried in his own city, Timnath-serah. •An inhabitant of Beth-shemesh, in whose land was the stone at which the milch-kine stopped when they drew the ark of God with the offerings of the Philistines from Ekron to Beth-shemesh, (I Samuel 6:14,18) •A governor of the city who gave his name to a gate of Jerusalem, (II Kings 23:8)..

Joshua 9:3 And when the inhabitantsH3427 of GibeonH1391 (hilly; and, hill city) (ghib-ohnי) heardH8085 (H853) whatH834 JoshuaH3091 had doneH6213 unto JerichoH3405 (fragrant; and, place of fragrance) (Yer-ee-khoי) and to Ai,H5857 (a ruin, heap; and, heap of ruins) (ah-yawthי),   —>   These Gibeonites weret the only ones who heard what Israel had did to Jericho and Ai, Father ensured all the surrounding nations heard, He wanted it broadcast and known.

Inhabitants of Gibeon=These are the Gibeonites, and as well learn when we come to verse v9:7(click here)below, the Gibeonites are the Hivites, one of the nations of peoples of Canaan, whom the Israelites were told in Deuteronomy 7:1-2 to utterly destroy, because they had mixed with and mated with the fallen angels. They knew and understood what they had done, and they also knew what Fathers plan for them was, which is why they are now coming deceitfully to Joshua and the elders. When the other Canaanite nations find out what these Gibeonites are doingwell be reading of this in Joshua 10:1-4theyre going to be quite ticked-off at them and want to destroy them.

Gibeon=Gibeon was approximately six and a half miles south-west of Beth-EL and approximately 8 miles north-west of Jerusalem, it was also where one of the high places where they performed illegal worship.
Gibeon
Gibeon=Gibeon was approximately six and a half miles south-west of Beth-EL and approximately 8 miles north-west of Jerusalem, it lie within the borders given to the Tribe of Benjamin as their inheritance, but sadly, the Tribe of Benjamin failed to utterly destroy the citys inhabitants when they moved into the land. There is quite a bit of history with the city called Gibeon. Our introduction to it and the people thereofthe Hivites, who are descended from Noahs son Ham and his own mother, this incestuous copulation produced Canaan and then Canaans descendants were Sidon, HethHeths descendants became known as the Hittitesthe Jebusite, the Amorite, the Girgasite, the Hivite, the Arkite, the Sinite, the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathitethese ten nations of peoples are collectively known as the Canaanitesoccurs right after our forefathers conquered and destroyed the inhabitants of Jericho an Ai. We read in Joshua 9(click here)that because these Hivites heard of our forefathers destroying Jericho and Ai, they didnt want to end up as the people of those two cities; therefore, they devised a scheme whereby they would send a delegation who would lie to Joshua and the elders of Israelclaiming they came to them from far away, so far away, that: their clothes were falling off their backs; their shoes were worn-out; and their food was moldy etc.and try and make a covenant of peace with them. Their lie workedthough Joshua and the elders found out three days later that they had been lied to, though by then it was too late because they already made a covenant with them, though sadly, Joshua never realized the gross error he committed by (1) not first consulting Father; and (2) the result of his putting these Hivites as the Priest and Levites servants, right there at Fathers Altaras Joshua and the elders of Israel made a covenant with them and allowed them to live among them. When their lie was found out, Joshua and the elders made them servants of the Priests and the Levites, temple servantsnethinimsmaking them the drawers of water and the hewers of wood. We read in the next Chapter, Joshua 10, of the adverse effects of Joshua and the elders decision of making their covenant with the Gibeonites; as, when Adoni-zedek, the king of the Jebusitesdirect cousins to the Hivitesfound out what the Hivites had done, that they were living among our forefathers, this angered him, so he contacted four other kings: Hoham, king of Hebron, Piram, king of Jarmuth, Japhia, king of Lachish, and Debir, king of Eglon to wage war against Gibeon. The Hivites now again fearing for their lives came to Joshua and implored them to come to their aid. Knowing they made this league with the Gibeonites, Joshua received word from Father who told him to fear not the Canaanites and he and the elders agreed and set upon these Canaanite kings and their war-fighters suddenly during a nighttime raid, while at the same time Father rained down great stones from heaven. Obviously our forefathers prevailed, slaughtering all the war-fighters and capturing the five kings whom they hung on trees. We next read in II Samuel 2(click here)that it was at the pool of Gibeon, almost 500 years later, where we find a division in Israel, with Sauls son Ish-bosheth leading the majority of Israel, and David leading a small contingent, and their respective armies under Generals Abner and Joab, meet and hold a play of mock-waro and the men of both sides grabbing their counterpart by the beard and thrusting them through with their swords. This brought about a larger conflict with Davids army putting Ish-bosheths army on the run. Davids nephew Asahel caught up with General Abner who told he was no match for the General, however Asahel wouldnt listen and charged, Abner had no choice but to defend himself and he slew Asahel. Some time later Joab and his brother Abishi, brothers to Asahel, caught up with Abner in Gibeon and they together slew Abner. The city of Gibeon remained a ritualistic hotspot; as upon the return of Fathers Ark from the Philistines and Davids first attempt to bring it home had failed, David then moved the Ark of the Covenant from the house of Obed-edom to JerusalemI Chronicles 15:25(click here)but the tabernacle and the Holy things which went inside remained at the high place of Gibeon as we read in 1 Chronicles 16:39(click here), 21:29 (click here), 2 Chronicles 1:3 (click here), and 1:13 (click here). There are several more accounts of things which happened with our forefathers at Gibeon, but Ill move on to the etymology now. For the etymology of the name Gibeon, we read the following in Abarim Publications: The name Gibeon comes from the root גבע and is probably related to the noun גבעה (gibeah), meaning hill: The ון (waw nun) upon which our name ends is a common way to quantify the core idea of a root into a unit that acts out the verb. The name Gibeon literally means Hill Town (New Open Bible Study Edition [NOBSE] Study Bible Name List) or High Hill (Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names). Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary does not offer an interpretation of the name Gibeon but does list it under the root גבע.. Now from the Strongs Concordance, we find the name Gibeon is Hebrew word number: H1391, - גּבעון, - gibיôni, - pronounced: ghib-ohnי, and means: From the same as H1387; hilly; Gibon, a place in Palestine: - Gibeon. Total KJV occurrences: 37.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Hill city. One of the four, cities of the Hivites, the inhabitants of which made a league with Joshua Joshua 9:3-15, and thus escaped the fate of Jericho and Ai, compare Joshua 11:19. Gibeon lay within the territory of Benjamin Joshua 18:25, and with its suburbs was allotted to the priests Joshua 21:17, of whom it became afterwards a principal station. It retains its ancient name almost intact, el-Jib. Its distance from Jerusalem by the main road is about 6 1/2 miles; but there is a more direct road reducing it to five miles..

Ai
Ai=Ai was one of the Canaanite royal cities, it lie east of Bethel and beside Beth-avenJoshua 7:2; 8:9. Just about everything written in Fathers Word concerning Ai is found in Joshua 8, But we first read in Joshua 7:1-5, that as Father was leading our forefathers into the Promised Land, they came to Ai, lets turn to Joshua 7: Joshua 7:1 But the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 committedH4603 a trespassH4604 in the accursed thing:H2764 for Achan,H5912 the sonH1121 of Carmi,H3756 the sonH1121 of Zabdi,H2067 the sonH1121 of Zerah,H2226 of the tribeH4294 of Judah,H3063 tookH3947 ofH4480 the accursed thing:H2764 and the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 was kindledH2734 against the childrenH1121 of Israel.H3478   —>   Our forefathers had just destroyed Jericho which Father had given into their hand. They were to take and gold and silver which they recovered from the people of Jericho and give it into the treasury of Fathers Sanctuary. However, Achan had seen and kept for himself a gold bar, some silver and a Babylonianish priests robe. He brought them back into the camp and hid them by burying them in the earth in his tent. Father knew what he had done and He was now going to hold our forefathers to account because of it punishment was due. [7:2] And JoshuaH3091 sentH7971 menH376 from JerichoH4480 H3405 to Ai,H5857 whichH834 is besideH5973 Beth-aven,H1007 on the east sideH4480 H6924 of Beth-el,H1008 and spakeH559 untoH413 them, saying,H559 “Go upH5927 and viewH7270 (H853) the country.”H776 And the menH376 went upH5927 and viewedH7270 (H853) Ai.H5857   —>   Joshua sent the war-fighters who had just returned from destroying Jericho, up to view Ai and see what they could see. [7:3] And they returnedH7725 toH413 Joshua,H3091 and saidH559 untoH413 him, “Let notH408 allH3605 the PeopleH5971 go up;H5927 but let about twoH505 orH176 threeH7969 thousandH505 menH376 go upH5927 and smiteH5221 (H853) Ai;H5857 and make notH408 (H853) allH3605 the PeopleH5971 to labourH3021 thither;H8033 forH3588 theyH1992 are but few.”H4592   —>   So, unlike when they first sent out the spies back in Numbers 13(click here)where they came back with that evil report and said there were giants in the land, so they could not enter; here, they tell Joshua that the people of Ai are few in number, therefore, they dont even need to send in their whole army of war-fighters, they only need to send in a Company or Batallion of war-fighters. Sadly for them, they dont know what Achan has done, and they also dont know Father is about to dish out some punishment upon them. [7:4] So there went upH5927 thitherH8033 ofH4480 the PeopleH5971 about threeH7969 thousandH505 men:H376 and they fledH5127 beforeH6440 the menH376 of Ai.H5857 [7:5] And the menH376 of AiH5857 smoteH5221 ofH4480 them about thirtyH7970 and sixH8337 men:H376 for they chasedH7291 them from beforeH6440 the gateH8179 even untoH5704 Shebarim,H7671 and smoteH5221 them in the going down:H4174 wherefore the heartsH3824 of the PeopleH5971 melted,H4549 and becameH1961 as water.H4325   —>   Fortunately for them, it was only a small number of 36 war-fighters who lost their lives. When the remainder of the war-fighters returned and told Joshua what happened, Josua fell on his face and sought Father as to why He allowed this to come to pass. Father in the next few verses of this Chapter tells Joshua of what Achan has done and what must be done with him and his family who knew and assisted in his keeping it hidden. We then come to Joshua 8 where we read of the victory which Father gave to our forefathers over Ai. The city was taken and burned, it was left a heap of ruins, the inhabitants, twelve thousand in number, were put to death, the king captured, hanged and then buried under a heap of stones at the gate of the ruined city, only the cattle being kept as spoil by our forefathers. The fall of Ai gave our forefathers entrance to the heart of the Promised Land, the land of Canaan, where at once they became established, Beth-el and other towns in the vicinity seeming to have yielded without a struggle. Ai was rebuilt at some later period by the People of the Tribe of Benjamin. for the etymology of the Ai, we read the following in Abarim Publications: The name Ai comes from the verb עוה i(יawa), meaning to bend or twist to a point of destruction: Note that this name Ai is spelled in most cases with the prefix ה (he) — which is either the definite article (the), or else the particle of direction (towards the) or ascription (of the) — including at its first appearance in Genesis 12:8: העי: The Ruin, or Toward Ruin. Nehemiah uses an Aramaic feminine form עיא in Nehemiah 11:31, and Isaiah uses a Hebrew feminine form עית in Isaiah 10:28. For a meaning of the name Ai, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads Ruin and Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names offers the rather elaborate A Heap Of Ruins. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary neither translates the name Ai nor places it under the root discussed above. This probably means that BDB doesnt think that the name Ai technically derives from the verb עוה, but a Hebrew audience, especially one without any etymologists, would indubitably make the link without reservations.. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that the name Ai is Hebrew word number: H5857, עַיi, עַיָּאi, or עַיָּתi, - יayi, יayâ'i, or יayâth, - pronounced: ahיeei, ah-yawיi, or ah-yawthיi, and means: For H5856; a ruin, Ai, Aja or Ajath, a place in Palestine: - Ai, Aija, Aijath, Hai. Total KJV occurrences: 40.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Heap of ruins. A city lying east of Bethel and beside Bethaven, (Joshua 7:2; 8:9). It was the second city taken by Israel after the passage of the Jordan, and was utterly destroyed, (Joshua 7:3-5; 8:1; Joshua 9:3; 10:1,2, 12:9). A city of the Ammonites, apparently attached to Heshbon, (Jeremiah 49:3)..

They rolled all the clothes and bread in the dirt to make it appear to be old and worn out in order to fool Joshua and our forefathers that they came from a far away place.
Gilgal
Gilgal=There is extensive history with our forefathers and Gilgal. After leaving Egypt and wandering the wilderness for 40 years; after the death of Miriam, Aaron and Moses, Joshua led our forefathers across the Jordan River and stepped onto dry land in Gilgal on the tenth day of the first month. Gilgal was where they set the twelve stones which they had picked up and brought out from the Jordan Riverwith which they made an Altar to Fatherthey made their first encampment on the west side of the Jordan River; where they circumsized themselveswhich was quite remarkable as it thus showed their trust in Father, as they were now in enemy territory with their backs against the Jordan River, and Joshua incapaciated his entire army in obedience to Fatherthey held the first Passover in the Promised Landafter the Passover, they celebrated the Feast of Unleavened Bread which ended on the 21st day of the month at even, which was exactly forty years from the day they left Egyptate of the old corn, and then next day, the Manna from heaven ceased and they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan from that day forward. Gilgal was where Fathers Tabernacle stayed until they moved it to Shilohwhere it remained until taken by the Philistines some 400 hundred years laterGilgal was later given to the Tribe of Naphtali as part of their inheritance. For the etymology of the name Gilgal, we read the following from Abarim Publications: The name Gilgal comes from the Hebrew verb גלל (galal), meaning to roll. After Joshua had circumcised Israel, God said that he had rolled away the reproach of Egypt, and the place where he had done this was called Gilgal ever since (Joshua 5:9). Note that the name Gilgal is spelled the same as the nouns galgal and gilgal that were derived of the verb galal: For a meaning of the name Gilgal, Harris Archer Waltke (HAW) Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament gingerly reads A Circle Of Stones (?) (their question mark); Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary renders (Sacred) Circle Of Stones. Now from the Strongs Concordance, we find that the name Gilgal is Hebrew word number: H1537, - גּלגּל, - gilgâl, - pronounced: ghil-gawlי, and means: The same as H1536 (with the article as a properly noun); wheel, Gilgal, the name of three places in Palestine: - Gilgal. See also H1019. Total KJV occurrences: 41.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: A wheel, rolling. The site of the first camp of the Israelites on the west of the Jordan, the place at which they passed the first night after crossing the river, and where the twelve stones were set up which had been taken from the bed of the stream Joshua 4:19,20, compare with Joshua 4:3 where also they kept the first passover in the land of Canaan Joshua 5:10. It was in the east border of Jericho, apparently on a hillock or rising ground Joshua 5:3, compare with Joshua 5:9. The LORD=This Title of Father as used here in this verse, is Father in His Role of יְהֹוָה, YHVHfrom Dr. Bullingers Companion Bible Appendices: YHVH, YAHVEH, or YEHOVAHthe sacred and personal name of Father. While Elohim is God as the Creator of all things, YEHOVAH is the same God in covenant relation to those whom He has created (compare II Chronicles 18:31). YEHOVAH means the Eternal, the Immutable One, He Who WAS, and IS, and IS TO COME. The Divine definition is given in Genesis 21:33. He is especially, therefore, the God of Israel; and the God of those who are redeemed, and are thus now in Christ. We can say My God, but not My YEHOVAH, for YEHOVAH is MY God..

God=As used in this verse, this is אלהים, ELOHIMfrom Dr. Bullingers Companion Bible Appendices,: ELOHIMthe genus God, in other words, Father in His role of Creator of all things. From Dr. Bullingers Companion Bible, Appendix 4: ELOHIM occurs 2,700 times. Its first occurrence connects it with creation, and gives it its essential meaning as the Creator. It indicates His relation to mankind as His creatures (see note on II Chronicles 18:31, where it stands in contrast with YEHOVAH as indicating covenant relationship). ELOHIM is God the Son, the living WORD with creature form to create (John 1:1; Colossians 1:15-17; Revelation 3:14); and later, with human form to redeem (John 1:14). Begotten of His Father before all worlds; born of His mother, in the world. In this creature form He appeared to the Patriarchs, a form not temporarily assumed.. Dr. Bullinger further notes in his Companion notes to this verse, that (with Art.) = the [true] God..

Sihon
Sihon=Sihon was the king of the Amoritesto read of the Amorites (click here)as our forefathers were first moving into the Promised Land. We read in Numbers 21click (here)that before entering into Heshbonthe beginning of Sihons territoryour forefathers first sent to Sihon seeking permission to cross his lands, telling him that they would neither drink any of his water, nor turn into his fields, nor into his vineyards; but, would pass straight through along the highway until they be past Sihons borders. Sihon refused our forefathers passage and immediately gathered his army to make war against our forefathers. Our forefathers put a whoopin on Sihon and his war-fighters and possessed all the Amorites lands. Every other mention of Sihon in Fathers word is in past tense, meaning, every other mention is of our forefathers destroying him and taking possession of his lands. Abarim Publications does not provide an etymology for the name Sihon, as such, neither can I. Now from the Strongs Concordance, we find that the name Sihon is Hebrew word number: H5511, - סיחוןi, or סיחן, - sı̂ychôn, or sı̂ychôn, - pronounced: see-khoneי, or see-khoneי, and means: From the same as H5477; tempestuous; Sichon, an Amoritish king: - Sihon. Total KJV occurrences: 37.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: King of the Amorites when Israel arrived on the borders of the promised land Numbers 21:21. Shortly before the time of Israels arrival he had dispossessed the Moabites of a splendid territory, driving them south of the natural bulwark of the Amen, ibidfor those who dont know what ibid means, [click here])Numbers 21:26-29. When the Israelite host appeared, he did not hesitate or temporize like Balak, but at once gathered his people together and attacked them. But the battle was his last. He and all his host were destroyed, and their district from Amen to Jabbok became at once the possession of the conqueror..
Heshbon
Heshbon=The name Heshbon did not live up to its meaning according to the Smiths Bible Dictionary meaning, which has stronghold as its meaning. At one point it may have been a stronghold, however, upon our forefathers entry into the Promised Land, Moses sent a request to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who was ruler over the cityHeshbon was Sihons royal cityrequesting to pass through his lands, telling Sihon that our forefathers would neither drink any of his water, nor turn into his fields, nor into his vineyards; but, would pass straight through along the highway until they be past Sihons borders. Sihon refused our forefathers passage, and immediately gathered his army to make war against our forefathers. Our forefathers put a whoopin on Sihon and his war-fighters and possessed all the Amorites lands. Heshbon lay on the southern border of GadJoshua 13:26and was one of the cities fortified by ReubenNumbers 32:37(click here). It is reckoned among the cities of Gad given to the Merarite LevitesJoshua 21:39. Every other mention of Heshbon in Fathers word is in past tense, meaning, every other mention is of our forefathers destroying Sihon and his war-fighters and taking possession of his lands. For the etymology of the name Heshbon, we read the following in Abarim Publications: The name Heshbon comes from the verb חשב (hashab) and is identical to the noun חשבון (heshbon): The noun חשבון (heshbon) denotes a societys entire collection of practical skills and technologies, which exists separate from the body of scientific knowledge of observable reality, and philosophical and metaphysical knowledge of the unseen. This noun is used three times in the Bible: Proverbs 7:27 reads ... adding one thing to another to find חשבון (heshbon). In Ecclesiastes 7:25 and 9:10 this word is coupled with wisdom (חכמה, hokma) and knowledge (דעת, daיat). For a meaning of the name Heshbon, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads Intelligence and Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names has Reason. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary does not translate this name but does confirm that it is identical to the noun חשבון (heshbon).. Now from the Strongs Concordance, we find that the name Heshbon is Hebrew word number: H2809, - חֶשְׁבּוֹן, - cheshbôn, - pronounced: khesh-boneי, and means: The same as H2808; contrivance; Cheshbon, a place East of the Jordan: - Heshbon. Total KJV occurrences: 38.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Stronghold. The capital city of Sihon king of the Amorites, (Numbers 21:26). It stood on the western border of the high plain—Mishor, (Joshua 13:17)—and on the boundary line between the tribes of Reuben and Gad. The ruins of Hesban, 20 miles east of the Jordan, on the parallel of the northern end of the Dead Sea mark the site, as they bear the name; of the ancient Heshbon. There are many cisterns among the ruins, compare (Song of Solomon 7:4)..
Og
Og=We read in Deuteronomy 3:11 concerning his stature: Deuteronomy 3:11 (ForH3588 onlyH7535 OgH5747 kingH4428 of BashanH1316 remainedH7604 of the remnantH4480 H3499 of giants;H7497 behold,H2009 his bedsteadH6210 was a bedsteadH6210 of iron;H1270 is itH1931 notH3808 in RabbathH7237 of the childrenH1121 of Ammon?H5983 nineH8672 cubitsH520 was the lengthH753 thereof, and fourH702 cubitsH520 the breadthH7341 of it, after the cubitH520 of a man.)H376   —>   Thus making this giants bedstand approximately 13 1/2-18 feet longlets put some context to this, think of a Basketball Court and its hoop, the hoop is 10 high, that means that Ogs head was between 3 1/2 and 8 feet above the basketball rim, think on this, we stand looking up at the rim, standing flat-footed, Og was looking down on the rimby 6-8 feet wide. Anyway, after our forefathers route of Sihon and the Amorites, they turned to go to Bashan and there met Og and his fellow giants. Father told Moses and our forefathers that they were to not fear Og and his war-fighters, as He was giving them into their hand. Father did as Promised and our forefathers thoroughly routed and destroyed Og and his fellow Amorite war-fighters, and then took possession of their lands. Abarim Publications does not give an etymology for the name Og, as such neither can I. Now from the Strongs Concordance, we find that the name Og is Hebrew word number: H5747, - עוֹגi, - יôg, - pronounced: ogue, and means: Probably from H5746; round; Og, a king of Bashan: - Og. Total KJV occurrences: 22.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: giant, literally, long-necked. An Amoritish king of Bashan, whose rule extended over sixty cities, (Joshua 13:12). He was one of the last representatives of the giant race of Rephaim, and was, with his children and his people, defeated and exterminated by the Israelites at Edrei immediately after the conquest of Sihon, (Numbers 32:33; 3:1-13. Also (1:4; 4:47; 31:4; Joshua 2:10; 9:10; 13:12,30). The belief in Ogs enormous stature is corroborated by an allusion to his iron bedstead preserved in Rabbath of the children of Ammon, (Deuteronomy 3:11)..
Bashan
Bashan=The name Bashan often occurs with the article, the Bashan, to describe the kingdom of Og, the most northerly part of the land East of the Jordan. It stretched from the border of Gilead in the South to the slopes of Hermon in the North. Hermon itself is never definitely included in Bashan, although Og is said to have ruled in that mountainJoshua 12:5; and Joshua 13:11. In Deuteronomy 3:10, the cities Salecah and Edrei seem to indicate the East and West limits respectively. This would agree with Joshua 12:5, and Joshua 13:11, which seem to make the cities of Geshur and Maacath the western boundary of Bashan. If this were so, then these unconquered peoples literally dwelt in the midst of our forefathers. On the other hand Deuteronomy 4:47 may mean that the Jordan formed the western boundary; while Deuteronomy 33:22 makes Bashan extend to the springs of the Jordan. If Golan lay in the district in which its name is still preservedel Jaulanthis also brings it to the lip of the Jordan valleyDeuteronomy 4:43thus we have the territory of Bashan identified. We next read concerning Bashan, in Numbers 21:33(click here)that, immediately following our forefathers route of Sihon and the Amorites, they turned to go to Bashan, and there met Og and his fellow giants. Father told Moses and our forefathers that they were to not fear Og and his war-fighters, as He was giving them into their hand. Father did as Promised and our forefathers thoroughly routed and destroyed Og and his fellow Amorite war-fighters, and then took possession of their lands. Later, after securing all the Promised Land and dividing them to our forefathers as their inheritance, Bashan was given to the Tribe of Manasseh, and we read in Deuteronomy 4:40-43, that Moses severed three cities on the East side of the Jordan River in order that they become sanctuary citiesa city where someone who was involved with the death of another Israelite could flee in safety until his case could be heardGolan in Bashan was one of those places. Abarim Publications does not provide an etymology for the name Bashan, as such, neither can I. Now from the Strongs Concordance, we find that the name Bashan is Hebrew word number: H1316, - בָּשָׁןi, - bâshân, - pronounced: baw-shawnי, and means: Of uncertain derivation; Bashan (often with the article), a region East of the Jordan: - Bashan. Total KJV occurrences: 60.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Fruitful. A district on the east of Jordan. It is sometimes spoken of as the land of Bashan, (I Chronicles 5:11) and compare Numbers 21:33; 32:33. And sometimes as all Bashan, (Deuteronomy 3:10,13; Joshua 12:5; 13:12,30). It was taken by the children of Israel after their conquest of the land of Sihon from Arnon to Jabbok. The limits of Bashan are very strictly defined. It extended from the border of Gilead on the south to Mount Hermon on the north, (Deuteronomy 3:3,10,14; Joshua 12:5; I Chronicles 5:23), and from the Arabah or Jordan valley on the west to Salchah (Sulkhad) and the border of the Geshurites and the Maachathites on the east, (Joshua 12:3-5; Deuteronomy 3:10). This important district was bestowed on the half-tribe of Manasseh, (Joshua 13:29-31) together with half Gilead. This country is now full of interesting ruins, which have lately been explored and from which much light has been thrown upon Bible times. See Porters Giant Cities of Bashan..
Ashtaroth
Ashtaroth=We in Numbers 21:33(click here)that, immediately following our forefathers route of Sihon and the Amorites, they turned to go to Bashan, and there met Og and his fellow Amorite giants. Father told Moses and our forefathers that they were to not fear Og and his war-fighters, as He was giving them into their hand. Father did as Promised, and our forefathers thoroughly routed and destroyed Ogs war-fighters at the entrance of Bashan, they then moved on to destroy his war-fighters in Edrei, and then encountered Og himself along with his fellow Amorite war-fighters at Ashtarothwhich we read of in Joshua 9:10(click here)where they again utterly destroyed them and then took possession of their lands. Later, after securing all the Promised Land and dividing them to our forefathers as their inheritance, Bashan, which included the city of Ashtaroth, was given to the Tribe of Manasseh, and particularly to the family of Machir as we read in Joshua 13:31. For the etymology of the name Ashtaroth, we read the following from Abarim Publications: Our name Ashtaroth is commonly spelled עשתרות but the shorter form עשתרת is applied once to Ogs hometown (Deuteronomy 1:4) and once to a plural of Ashtoreth (I Samuel 7:4). There was also a place called Ashtaroth. It was situated in Gilead, and was the hometown of king Og of Bashan, who was defeated by Israel under Moses (Deuteronomy 1:4, Joshua 9:10). King Og was the last of the giant Rephaim (Joshua 12:4, 13:12) and the Rephaim were defeated once before, during the War of Four Against Five Kings, when they lived in a place called Ashteroth-karnaim (Genesis 14:5). Some scholars assume that Ashtaroth and Ashteroth-karnaim are the same place, but there is no evidence for this either way. When the promised land was divided, Ashtaroth was given to the half-tribe of Manasseh, and particularly to the family of Machir (Joshua 13:31). The Chronicler additionally reports that Manasseh subsequently gave Ashtaroth to the Gershomites (I Chronicles 6:71).. Now from the Strongs Concordance, we find that the name Ashtaroth is Hebrew word number: H6252, - עַשְׁתָּרוֹתi, or עַשְׁתָּרֹתi, - יashtârôthi, or יashtârôthi, - pronounced: ash-taw-rothיi, or ash-taw-rothיi, and means: Plural of H6251; increase; Ashtaroth, the name of a Sidonian deity, and of a place East of the Jordan: - Ashtaroth, Astaroth. See also H1045, H6253, H6255. Total KJV occurrences: 12.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: A star. A city on the east of Jordan in Bashan, in the kingdom of Og, doubtless so called from being a seat of the worship of the goddess of the same name, (Deuteronomy 1:4; Joshua 9:10; 12:4; 13:12)..

Total KJV occurrences: 6.. Now lets look at bondage, and we find it is Strongs Greek word number: G1398, - δουλεύω, - douleuō, - pronounced: dool-yooי-o, and means: From G1401; to be a slave to (literally or figuratively, involuntarily or voluntarily): - be in bondage, (do) serve (-ice). Total KJV occurrences: 25.. It was all to gain access to our forefathers camp, and also so that they wouldnt be killed. Im sure it never crossed their minds how successful their deception would be, that they would end up with the Priests and Levites.

Joshua 9:15 And JoshuaH3091 madeH6213 peaceH7965 with them, and madeH6213 a leagueH1285 with them, to let them live:H2421 and the princesH5387 of the congregationH5712 swareH7650 unto them.   —>   …made a league with them…=This means that Joshua and our forefathers solemnized a covenant or contract with the sworn enemy to not kill them. They completely disregarded what Father had commanded them to utterly destroy them as He commanded in Deuteronomy 7:1-2 and Deuteronomy 20:16-17; lets read them: Deuteronomy 7:1 WhenH3588 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 shall bringH935 thee intoH413 the landH776 whitherH834 H8033 thouH859 goestH935 to possessH3423 it, and hath cast outH5394 manyH7227 nationsH1471 beforeH4480 H6440 thee, the Hittites,H2850 and the Girgashites,H1622 and the Amorites,H567 and the Canaanites,H3669 and the Perizzites,H6522 and the Hivites,H2340 and the Jebusites,H2983 sevenH7651 nationsH1471 greaterH7227 and mightierH6099 thanH4480 thou; [7:2] And when the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 shall deliverH5414 them beforeH6440 thee; thou shalt smiteH5221 them, and utterly destroyH2763 H2763 them; thou shalt makeH3772 noH3808 covenantH1285 with them, norH3808 shew mercyH2603 unto them:, and now Deuteronomy 20:16 ButH7535 of the citiesH4480 H5892 of theseH428 people,H5971 whichH834 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 doth giveH5414 thee for an inheritance,H5159 thou shalt save aliveH2421 nothingH3808 H3605 that breatheth:H5397 [20:17] ButH3588 thou shalt utterly destroyH2763 H2763 them; namely, the Hittites,H2850 and the Amorites,H567 the Canaanites,H3669 and the Perizzites,H6522 the Hivites,H2340 and the Jebusites;H2983 asH834 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 hath commandedH6680 thee:. Yes, it was made under false pretenses on the enemies part, but it was still a contract which our forefathers know they will have to live with and uphold. Joshua and the rest of our forefathers of this time will never know the long-lasting negative consequences of their actions.

                                       9:16-17 Deception
                                          discovered.

Joshua 9:16 And it came to passH1961 at the endH4480 H7097 of threeH7969 daysH3117 afterH310 H834 they had madeH3772 a leagueH1285 with them, that they heardH8085 thatH3588 theyH1992 were theirH413 neighbours,H7138 and that theyH1992 dweltH3427 amongH7130 them.   —>   It didnt take too long before our forefathers heard that these Hivites were in actuality their next door neighbors, they came from within their own territory. So, now what will our forefathers do?
1A17
Joshua 9:17 And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 journeyed,H5265 and cameH935 untoH413 their citiesH5892 on the thirdH7992 day.H3117 Now their citiesH5892 were Gibeon,H1391 and Chephirah,H3716 (the village (always with the article); and, the hamlet) (kef-ee-rawי) and Beeroth,,H881 (wells; and, wells) (be-ay-rohthי) and Kirjath-jearim.H7157(flooring that is, building; a city; and, City of forests) (keer-yathי yeh-aw-reemי)   —>   The lie is out, the deceit laid bare, it is only a three days journey to get to their cities not nearly enough time for their bread to get mouldy, or their clothes to wear out. What will our forefathers do now? Remember, they already madewithout first consulting Fatherthat covenant with them that they would not kill them.
Chephirah
Chephirah=Chephirah was one of four citiesthe other three were Gibeon, Beeroth and Kiriath-jearimwhich as we read of in Joshua 9:17(click here)that Joshua and our forefathers traveled to, right after they were deceived and lied to concerning where the Hiviteswho came to them claiming they came from a far away land and wanted to make a covenant with them becausehere they didnt liethey heard what our forefathers had done to all the people of the other lands as they were entering into the Promised Land, and they didnt want to diecame from, they very quickly realized they had been lied to; but, by the time they arrived in Chephirah, it was already too late to do anything to the lying Hivites, as they had already made a covenant with them that they would not kill them. For the etymology of the name Chephirah, we read the following from Abarim Publications: The name Chephirah derives from the verb כפר (kapar): For a meaning of the name Chephirah, both New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List and Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names simply read Village.. Now from the Strongs Concordance, we find that the name Chephirah is Hebrew word number: H3716, - כְּפִירָהi, - kephı̂yrâhi, - pronounced: kef-ee-rawיi, and means: Feminine of H3715; The village (always with the article); Kephirah, a place in Palestine: - Chephirah. Total KJV occurrences: 4.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: The hamlet. One of the four cities of the Gibeonites Joshua 9:17, named afterwards among the towns of Benjamin Ezra 2:25; Nehemiah 7:29..
Beeroth
Beeroth=Beeroth was one of four citiesthe other three were Gibeon, Chephirah and Kiriath-jearimwhich as we read of in Joshua 9:17(click here)that Joshua and our forefathers traveled to, right after they were deceived and lied to concerning where the Hiviteswho came to them claiming they came from a far away land and wanted to make a covenant with them becausehere they didnt liethey heard what our forefathers had done to all the people of the other lands as they were entering into the Promised Land, and they didnt want to diecame from, they very quickly realized they had been lied to; but, by the time they arrived in Beeroth, it was already too late to do anything to the lying Hivites, as they had already made a covenant with them that they would not kill them. For the etymology of the name Beeroth, we read the following from Abarim Publications: The name Beeroth is the plural form of the feminine noun באר (beיer), meaning well: For a meaning of the name Beeroth, both New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List and Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names read Wells. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary doesnt translate this name but does list it under באר (baיar).. Now from the Strongs Concordance, we find that the name Beeroth is Hebrew word number: H881, - בְּאֵרוֹתi, - be'êrôthi, - pronounced: be-ay-rohthיi, and means: Feminine plural of H875; wells; Beeroth, a place in Palestine: - Beeroth. Total KJV occurrences: 6.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Wells. One of the four cities of the Hivites who deluded Joshua into a treaty of peace with them, (Joshua 9:17). It is now el-Bireh, which stands about 10 miles north of Jerusalem..
Kirjath-jearim
Kirjath-jearim=Kirjath-jearim was one of the four chief cities of the Gibeonitesthe mention of the name Gibeonites should start to raise the hair on the back of your neck brethrenif you know anything of fathers Word that is. We first read of Kirjath-jearim in Joshua 9:17(click here)when the Gibeonites worked wilily against our forefathers and made as if they had been ambassadors and took old sacks and wine bottles, and they allowed their bread to get moldy, and rubbed dirt all over their clothes and shoes in order to make themselves appear as if they had come from a far-off land in order to serve and worship Father YHVH. In reality, their city was less than 3 days travel away. They did all this in order to deceive our forefathers so as they would disobey Father and not kill them. Joshua and the elderswithout first consulting with Fatherbelieved their lies and invited them into their camp, making a covenant with them that they would not kill them. When it was found out 3 days later that they had been lied to, Joshua and the elders knew they had been had, but they now couldnt kill them because of their promise not to. Therefore, they made them servantslater known as nethinims or temple servantshaving them draw water and hew wood for Fathers Altar. Eventually, the city of Kirjath-jearim was given to the Tribe of Judah, and it was one of the places which lie on the boarder between Judah and Benjamin. It was obviously situated at the north or north-western border of Judah because it also served as a marker for the territory of the tribe of Benjamin as we read in Joshua 18:14. In the time of the judges, a band of six-hundred Danites came from the north looking for better lands and camped near Kiriath-jearim on their way to sack Laish, and called it Mahaneh-dan, but that name doesnt seem to have stuck. Much later, when the Philistines delivered the Ark of the Covenant back to our forefathers after having captured it during the time of Eli, it ended up in the house of Abinadab of Kiriath-jearim as we read in I Samuel 7:1(click here)from which David retrieved it when he became king of the Nation of the House of Israel II Samuel 6(click here)and I Chronicles 13(click here). For the etymology of the name Kirjath-jearim, we read the following in Abarim Publications: The name Kirjath-jearim obviously consists of two elements. The first part is the same as the name Kiriath, which is identical to an older variant of the Biblical noun קריה (qiryah), meaning city. It derives of the verb קרה (qara), meaning to meet or get together: The second part of our name is a regular plural form of the noun יער (yaיar), meaning forest, from the unused root יער: For a meaning of the name Kiriath-jearim, both New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List and Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary read City Of Forests. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names proposes City Of Woods, and adds: i.e. full of woods or trees.. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H7157, - קרית יערים or קרית ערים, - qiryath ye‛ârı̂ym or qiryath ‛ârı̂ym, pronounced - (keer-yathי) yeh-aw-reemי or (keer-yathי) aw-reemי, and means: Used in Jeremiah 26:20 with the article interposed, or in Joshua 18:28 using simply the former part of the word, from H7151 and the plural of H3293 or H5892; flooring that is, building; a city; city of forests, or city of towns; Kirjath Jearim or Kirjath Arim, a place in Palestine: - Kirjath, Kirjath-jearim, Kirjath-arim. Total KJV occurrences: 20.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: City of forests. First mentioned as one of the four cities of the Gibeonites Joshua 9:17, it next occurs as one of the landmarks of the northern boundary of Judah Joshua 15:9, and as the point at which the western and southern boundaries of Benjamin coincided Joshua 18:14,15, and in the last two passages we find that it bore another, perhaps earlier, name that of the great Canaanite deity Baal, namely BAALAH and KIRJATH-BAAL. At this place the ark remained for twenty years I Samuel 7:2. At the close of that time Kirjath-jearim lost its sacred treasure, on its removal by David to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite I Chronicles 13:5,6; II Chronicles 1:4; 6:2, etc. To Eusebius and Jerome it appears to have been well known. They describe it as a village at the ninth mile between Jerusalem and Diospolis (Lydda). These requirements are exactly fulfilled in the small modern village of Kuriet-el-Enab now usually known as Abu Gosh, from the robber chief whose headquarters it was on the road from Jaffa and Jerusalem..
1A18
Joshua 9:18 And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 smoteH5221 them not,H3808 becauseH3588 the princesH5387 of the congregationH5712 had swornH7650 unto them by the LORDH3068 GodH430 of Israel.H3478 And allH3605 the congregationH5712 murmuredH3885 againstH5921 the princes.H5387   —>   Rather than uphold their promise to Fatherto Whom they swore that they would indeed utterly destroy all the inhabitants of these landsthey reneged on that promise to Father, and instead, kept a promise to man. Father knew these Hivites were lying to Joshua and the elders; and, had they come to Him and sought His counsel through Eleazar the high priest who had the Urim and Thummim, He would have told them to not make a league with them; but, to continue in their utterly destroying them.

…all the congregation murmured…=The people rightfully said that what the princesJoshua and the eldersdid, was wrong. So, after the People became angry because of the decision and the actions of Joshua and the elders, did Joshua and the elders call for a stop in order to think and reflect on their own decision and actions? NO! Did they decide to now seek Father for His counsel? No! They compounded the problem by pressing forward and honoring their promise\oath to manthese lying hivites at thatrather than seeking Father and His counsel as to what they should now do. Yes, they made a promise to man, but, they had first made a Promise to Father, and it is the Promise to Father which they should have honored.

                                       9:19-21 Deception
                                          compounded.
1A19
Joshua 9:19 But allH3605 the princesH5387 saidH559 untoH413 allH3605 the congregation,H5712WeH587 have swornH7650 unto them by the LORDH3068 GodH430 of Israel:H3478 nowH6258 therefore we mayH3201 notH3808 touchH5650 them.   —>   Again, they had already sworn to Father that they would kill them, they should have honored their first promise, the one made to Father.
1A20
Joshua 9:20 ThisH2063 we will doH6213 to them; we will even let them live,H2421 (H853) lestH3808 wrathH7110 beH1961 uponH5921 us, because ofH5921 the oathH7621 whichH834 we swareH7650 unto them.”   —>   This is exactly what happens when you rely on self and not Father. Father should have brought His wrath upon them for allowing them to live and for not utterly destroying them as they promised to do; especially considering what they are about to do.
1A21
Joshua 9:21 And the princesH5387 saidH559 untoH413 them, “Let them live;H2421 but let them beH1961 hewersH2404 of woodH6086 and drawersH7579 of waterH4325 unto allH3605 the congregation;”H5712 asH834 the princesH5387 had promisedH1696 them.   —>   At present, per this verse, they are only allowing them to be the drawers of water and hewers of wood for the congregation, but lets continue reading and see what happens.

…hewers of wood and drawers of water unto all the congregation…=So, they are making them servants or bondsmen. It is from this service where theyll become known as the nethinim, i.e., one given to service, and in the future, well find it is in the Strongs Concordance, Hebrew word number: H5414, - נָתַן, - nâthan, - pronounced: naw-thanי, and means: A primitive root; to give, used with great latitude of application (put, make, etc.): - add, apply, appoint, ascribe, assign, X avenge, X be ([healed]), bestow, bring (forth, hither), cast, cause, charge, come, commit consider, count, + cry, deliver (up), direct, distribute do, X doubtless, X without fail, fasten, frame, X get, give (forth, over, up), grant, hang (up), X have, X indeed, lay (unto charge, up), (give) leave, lend, let (out), + lie, lift up, make, + O that, occupy, offer, ordain, pay, perform, place, pour, print, X pull, put (forth), recompense, render, requite, restore, send (out), set (forth), shew, shoot forth (up). + sing, + slander, strike, [sub-] mit, suffer, X surely, X take, thrust, trade, turn, utter, + weep, X willingly, + withdraw, + would (to) God, yield. Total KJV occurrences: 2011. This is for the congregation, not the Temple, that is coming next and is in the Strongs, Hebrew word number: H5411, which well cover in a moment.

                                 9:22-27 What Joshua did.
                                    Consequence.
                                 9:22 Question of Joshua.
1A22
Joshua 9:22 And JoshuaH3091 calledH7121 for them, (the lying deceiving Hivites) and he spakeH1696 untoH413 them, saying,H559 “WhereforeH4100 have ye beguiledH7411 us, saying,H559WeH587 are veryH3966 farH7350 fromH4480 you;’ when yeH859 dwellH3427 amongH7130 us?   —>   Its a little late for a confrontation with them about their lying now!

…beguiled…=Lets check out this word beguiled in our Strongs Concordance, when we do, we find that it is Hebrew word number: H7411, - רָמָה, - râmâh, - pronounced: raw-mawי, and means: A primitive root; to hurl; specifically to shoot; figuratively to delude or betray (as if causing to fall): - beguile, betray, [bow-] man, carry, deceive, throw. Total KJV occurrences: 12.. This word beguiled is not to be confused with the word beguiled used in Genesis 3:13(click here)where we find the usage there is Hebrew word number: H5377(click here)where that beguiled, means: morally to seduce, which is what satan did to Eve, he seduced her into having intercourse with him. But, anyway, as far as Im concerned, once Joshua and the elders realized they had been lied to, they should have called off the contract, covenant, league, or oath, whichever you want to call it, as, it was an invalid contract, as, it was entered into by the lying hivites, falsely, because they knew they were lying to Joshua and the elders; and as such, Father would not have brought wrath upon Joshua for breaking a null and void, invalid contract.

Listen to the next verse and pay close attention to the change which Joshua makes:

                                 9:23 The sentence of
                                    Joshua. Now
                                       therefore…
1A23
Joshua 9:23 NowH6258 therefore yeH859 are cursed,H779 and there shall noneH3808 ofH4480 you be freedH3772 from being bondmen,H5650 and hewersH2404 of woodH6086 and drawersH7579 of waterH4325 for the houseH1004 of my God.”H430   —>   ye are cursed=Who is actually cursed here brethren? It certainly isnt the hivites, as, (1) they get to live because Joshua and the elders failed in fulfilling what Father told them to do and their Promise to utterly destroy them, and (2) the hivites get what they wanted: i.e., to live among our forefathers in safety. So, it is our forefathers who are cursed, as they have opened a door and not only invited the enemy to live among them; but, they also invited them right on in to Fathers House. Joshua cannot see; but, fortunately for we today, we have the hindsight to see that this was a big, big mistake; as because of this, the Levites will become lazy and allow themthe hivitesto take over other duties the Levites and then the Priests were supposed to be doing: such as scribe, record keeping, and writing Fathers Word for the High Priest, and then even the Priesthood itself.

…for the house of my God=Why in the world would Joshua think that putting them in Fathers House would be a good thing? Why did he think Father would approve of this move? When did Father YHVH become his God? Yes, we today know that though Father did not bring wrath upon Joshua and the elders because of this foolish move, He did point out to us, in several places in His Word and on several occasions, IF we Study His Word, we find them, IF we have the eyes to see.

                                 9:24 Reply to question

Joshua 9:24 And they answeredH6030 (H853) Joshua,H3091 and said,H559 “BecauseH3588 it was certainly toldH5046 H5046 thy servants,H5650 (H853) how thatH834 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 commandedH6680 His servantH5650 (H853) MosesH4872 to giveH5414 you allH3605 the land,H776 and to destroyH8045 (H853) allH3605 the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776 from beforeH4480 H6440 you, therefore we were soreH3966 afraidH3372 of our livesH5315 because ofH4480 H6440 you, and have doneH6213 (H853) thisH2088 thing.H169   —>   Well, they finally told a truth: they heard Father commanded Moses to give our forefathers the land, to destroy all the inhabitants of the land, and because they didnt want to die. What will they do now?

                                         9:25-27 Sentence
                                            submitted to.
                                               Now behold…
1A25
Joshua 9:25 And now,H6258 behold,H2009 we are in thine hand:H3027 as it seemeth goodH2896 and rightH3477 unto theeH5869 to doH6213 unto us, do.”H6213   —>   No lie coming out of the mouth of the hivite now; they absolutely were afraid for their lives, and rightfully so. Had they never messed with and mated with the fallen angels, Father would never have told Moses and the Israelites to utterly destroy them. But, now that they know they can live in safety, theyll submit to what Joshua and the elders have for them.
1A26
Joshua 9:26 And soH3651 didH6213 he unto them, and deliveredH5337 them out of the handH4480 H3027 of the childrenH1121 of Israel,H3478 that they slewH2026 them not.H3808   —>   And thus, Joshua relented and fell prey to their pleading and had pity on them. Think of the consequences of his actions brethren: (1) our forefathers now have some of the hybrid giants in their midst; (2) the hivites have the knowledge concerning the First Earth Age which was passed onto them from the fallen angels, which Father didnt want them to have, knowledge which He wanted to share not corrupted knowledge; (3) and here in the next and last verse of this Chapter, as well see, Joshua will again make them the hewers of wood and drawers of water for Father House, thereby giving them access right to Father and His things. Eventually, the Priests, because of this, will become so lazy that theyll allow these same hivites and others who they also allow into their camp, to completely take over the priesthood. We can read about it in I Chronicles 2:55(click here)Ezra 2:43-58, Ezra 8:17-20, Nehemiah 8:46-60, Jeremiah 24(click here)Jeremiah 35(click here)and many times in The Gospels where we read of Jesus contending with the scribes on a almost daily basis.
1A27
Joshua 9:27 And JoshuaH3091 madeH5414 them thatH1931 dayH3117 hewersH2024 of woodH6086 and drawersH7579 of waterH4325 for the congregation,H5712 and for the altarH4196 of the LORD,H3068 even untoH5704 thisH2088 day,H3117 inH413 the placeH4725 whichH834 he should choose.H977   —>   So, if you have your enemy doing the things in your house which you should be doing, how do you think youll fare? Joshua made them the temple servantsor as well read of them in the future, the nethinimand the first place well read of them is in I Chronicles 2:55(click here, though here they are identified as the scribes)but the first time they are identified as nethinim(s) is in I Chronicles 9:2(click here). Ive harped on it enough, but Im saying it again, it was these same peoples who became the scribes Jesus contended with and was against when He walked in the flesh. What happened to them after they crucified Jesus? Did they disband and go away? No, they still to this day, control some of the priesthood of a lot of denominations. It is for this very reason we have some of the false teachings, dogma, lies, and traditions of man, coming out of the kurch houses that we do. Do you believe the Written Word of God, or the spoken word of man?
